parked while stopped
so awhlie ago i was in a friends car, and everytime he stopped at a light he'd throw his car into park and pull the E break...then when the light would change green, he'd throw it into drive, release the e break and go
is this a common practice that i wasn't aware of? cause really it was the most annoying thing EVER! if i'm at a light and i gotta grab something from the back i'll throw the e break on, but it's really unnecessary to put your car into park everytime you're stopped...so weird :284: |

its not common practice but its a pretty good idea if you take into consideration the possibility of being rearended at an intersection.
i was rearended at an during a green at the intersection btw E12th and commercial and my car was hit so hard that iot was written off and i still have some serious issuses with my back 6 months later. my car travelled atleast 20 feat from where i was stopped fortunately i didnt hit the car in front of me, however had i been the first car in line at an intersection with a red light and traffic coming i would have been pushed into traffic and possibly nailed on ym driver side. if that happened thewn im pretty sure my injuries would be worse then a chronically sore back. This is why driving instructors tell people not to put their car into neutral when their stoped at intersections, so if they get hit their foot is knocked off the clutch and the car stalls before it rolls into the intersection. anyway..thats way to much hassle and i think id look like a chump pulling my parking brake everytime i stopped so i wouldnt bother,...plus it would probably wear out the ratchet in my park brake. |

i'll usually put the car in neutral, and put the e-brake on when i'm at a light. gives my feet a rest. driving in the city in heavy traffic can take a lot of legwork.
as for dude putting it in park, i think i'd rather have that than those people who let off on the brake to rest their legs, let the car inch forward a bit, then put the brake back on. then do it again. ugh. i hate that. |

With an old manual vehicle I can understand that. With my old '87 pu, in bumper to bumper traffic here, my left leg for the HEAVY clutch in that thing would get fatigued after driving around for long periods of time. |

depends on the car. how long your legs are with respect to the pedals. how finicky the clutch is. how much heel-toeing you have to do to keep the car from stalling. etc. Quote:
