Canucks Goaltending Crisis

I am not jumping off the canucks bandwagon, but I have seen way too many games being lost due to poor goaltending. We all know how tough it is for a goalie to play here in Vancouver, and we always had goalies who played their Ups-and-Downs games. Cloutier has proven (at least to me) he is a backup goalie :070: . I figured with the likes of CuJo our Canucks team has a way better chance of succeeding down the road. However with the price tag labelled on Joseph, it would be highly unlikely Curtis will land on our home pad.

I have been more than happy if the Canucks introduced Alex Auld more often to the NHL level. Seriously, he does not play as often and what more fresh aggressive blood would help to spur the struggling Vancouver team than a backup to a backup goalie in helping the canucks win! Alex was held in the minors for too long. I say bring him up to play more, it's spring and things should at least start to blossom. :317: What do we think of this?

i still say alex auld is a backup goalie for now give him a few more years to get his goalie perfection together. regardless he is an ample goalie. I have seen him p lay the last two years, he isn't a bad goalie, but still young and all.

the columbus game our defensive coverage was the reason we lost. n ot really the goaltending, chicago game the first 3 goals, especially the first was goaltending. Common hedberg?

in the columbus game if we have pla yed the get the puck dump it down the ice kinda game we prob could have won, but instead our coverage right down l ow in front of tyhe net. and by the faceo ff circles was terrible. Terribel

it may also be another reason that our defence is killing us. Is it possible that they are jumping too much into the play and not focussing on the defence as much? I think so. Care to ellaborate on this anyone?? :010:

^ ya that is one good theory.

Well since the canucks forwards aren't scoring very much these days the defense is trying to make up for it, but the thing is in the beginning of the season were getting scores of 6-2 and 4-1 because our defense and forwards would both score goals

I bet the people who were screaming at Crawford to make Hedberg the #1 goalie (based on his back to back shutouts a few weeks ago) are singing a different tune now.

I wouldn't mind Alex Auld getting a shot at some point. But I don't see it as anything other than a desperate grasp for a solution.

let us also not forget that we started the season as a healthy stanley cup contending team!!!! What were we? Something like unbeaten @ home in 18 games??? And then we fell apart after the Arvedson and Jovanovski injuries. That fucking licked

we also have to assume that maybe all the injuries the canucks suffered gave other teams more chances to score, hence why we gave up more goals for lack of offensive skill we were injured to?

goaltender crisis? The uncertainty of goalies going into the playoffs runs mroe then jsut the Canucks.

Colorado with abby and Salo are both unproven
Dallas with an uncertainty as he is not proven in the playoffs
Detroit with Legace and cujo are both unproven in playoffs
Canucks also with Clout and Hedberg
Sanjose as well
Calgary as well
Nasville as well
Edmonton as well

in east

Philly has 2 unproven goalies

Ottawa, Lalime has been solid last 2 post seasons but he has been shaky this year

Toronto - belfour has a bad back and "could" fuck him up in playoffs and theirt back up Trevor Kidd was said by TSn the other day to be the worst goalie in the league lol

New Jersey - very proven goalie

Tampa - no proven netminding either

Boston with Raycroft who has been great but he is still a rookie going into his 1st postseason

i wont go on. in the stanley cup playoffs we all know goaltending is very very inportant but with all the uncertainty of teams goalies it seems wide open to me.

^ i think tampa is gonna do fine this year with Khabibulan and Graham in net to back him up, though it could go the other way.

Detroit i believe is gonna start with Cujo and if he fucks up their gonna replace him with lagace for the ramainder of the playoff's

Toronto: Belfour has been having an up and down last few weeks. Wins a game, than gets blown away 7-2 the next game.
Questionable but potential to win is there.

Same deal with Lalime, the talent is their questionable again though.,

Philly: Sean Burke is definetly not a unproven goalie, he has loads of experience to give out. Its one reason why philly picked him up.

but yes the west teams are all weak in the goalie situation going into the playoffs. Probably detroit has the possible best playoff goalie situation out of the west, possibly

basically put, its like this.

canucks need to get timely scoring from the forwards, and occasionally defensve, can't jump up as much for the likely hood of a turnover can be great in the playoffs.

The defensive coverage wil have to be top notch by all, i mean look at the past few years of playoff's for the canucks. -8 for naslund aloty of players in the minues. You just can't do that in the playoff's.

Bertuzzi took alot of penalties last year. Which brings me to mmy next point. The canucks will have to remain more disciplened than last year.

We need our special teams when we get the chances for powerplays we gotta at least get some shots through, try and make it easy. Shoot the puck ON NET and go and crash the net for a rebound. Not the keep it out of the perimeter and look for the perfect passing play.

Shorthanded were pretty good at this but we got killed last year by minnesota on the powerplay so be warned anyways.

Lastly goaltending. We need timely goaltending, occasionally maybe we will need clouts or the moose to steal a game for us.

Kirk Mclean did it for us in 94, and it builds momentum when you can steal a game or two
