GIVE UP YOUR ORGANS!!! have you registered?
www.transplant.bc.ca
Something like 90% of people in this province agree with organ donation yet only 10% have registered take a moment and tell them - Yes or No it could mean the difference between life and death for someone. My thoughts are - I'm going to die at some point - if it's next week or 60 years from now..if parts of me can help out someone else - that's better then them rotting with the rest of me :) www.transplant.bc.ca |

^ Why?
I am curious why some people would say no other then religious beliefs - I understand that the idea of people taking your parts can be freaky but you'd be dead and it's not like if you choose 'no' that things don't get done your body post mortem anyway -- think embalming |

I have always believed in organ donation, but I never knew where to register to make this happen, so thanks Maryah! :) I will get on registering right now. I definitely believe that everyone should if they have healthy organs...it can mean a matter of life or death for another human being, and why not save someone after you die if you can? It's like a little piece of you living on.

i guess i just have issues signing my dead carcuss over to medical science. i plan on getting cremated. no embalming for me thanks. :kimmie: |

^ there are tissues and corneas and bone marrow and all sorts of good stuff - I mean you don't have to register thinking you'll die tomorrow
I guess maybe that's why some people have issue with it - it makes them think about their mortality But seriously people - even if it is to say NO those are my organs and I wanna rot with them - take a moment to register otherwise when you do pass you leave a really tough choice in the hands of loved ones who night not make the choice you wanted - and plus that puts an awful burden on them ..cause organs need to be taken pretty quick after death -- and no one wants to have to think about that in those hours |

and if by freaky shit you mean saving a child's vision or a mother's life -- then i'm all being freaky Obviously you are entitled to choose what you want - but don't make an uniformed choice to say 'no' |

My care card number came up "Registered June 2, 1998", but I just updated it. :)
I have no problems with donating my fleshy organs, but Ima be crisped with my corneas intact. I believe that eyes are the windows to the soul, and (vanity speaking here)they are my best feature. My parents (and my boyfriend, although he doesn't want to hear about it)know how I feel, and this also takes the pressure and stress off my family at a time that will be terribly difficult for them. |

yay!! I am so down with organ transplanting. Besides giving birth it is the greatest gift you can ever give to someone. When I go if can help some one to live a better life then I feel better already. Thanks for posting about this M. it's so important for peope to register as the little sticker isn't enough. :)

I registered to only have my organs donated for transplant purposes and not for medical research. I only want to do it if I know it's going to be for the purpose of directly helping another person see/live/etc. rather than possibly going to some random medical student to butcher and learn from.

Wth all the shit I pump into my body, and how hard I am on it with my various ctivities, I do seriously doubt that any of my organs are going to be intact enough to be useful to someone else when I die.
However, I am a registered donor. I mean, if they CAN make some use out of them, why not give someone else a chance at life? Hell, I would be dead.... I wouldn't exactly have a whole lot of use for them at that point. |

I registered a while ago and think it's an excellent idea.
Although I think that the government should go one step further and implement assumed consent organ donation. I'm not fully informed on all the details of the system that is in place but I know that there are currently waiting lists because of a lack of organs. I read somewhere that there are countries who simply take useable organs from people who die and those who wish not to have their organs used are the ones who register. These countries have no waiting lists for organ transplants. I heard about assumed consent a while ago and I may not have all of my facts straight, but from what I remember, it seemed as though it could help a lot of people in Canada. If I missed out on some info please correct me ;) |
