Employee rights?

I'm trying to find a site online that can tell me something about severance pay/packages. I'd look myself but I don't really have the time or know where to start aside from Google.

At the end of this month I'm being terminated because my boss is retiring. I've worked here for nearly three years (would've been three years on July 1st) and I think I'm kind of entitled to something (or at least I hope I am).

I didn't get any kind of bonus check with my last two paychecks (I get paid by postdated cheques) and I'm just wondering if my penny pinching boss should be coughing something up or not.

Basically I'd like something to back myself up with before I talk to my super about it.

Thanx =)

This should help you out...

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for.. I didn't read much into the termination of employment section. But hopefully it helps!

Are you unionized?

That blows that you're losing your job though. At least you'll be able to collect EI if you want to. haha.

Ya it's kinda sucky but I knew it was gonna happen so it's not a HUGE shock. I just thought it might be later in the summer is all.

I think I might take some time off from the working world... after 3 years non stop full time office drudgery I think I deserve it.

There's an HRDC office on King George Hwy in Surrey (my mommy works there). Not sure if there are any other branches.

BUT I think they ONLY do online claims now, so you probably won't have to go anywhere
I'll look into it more :)

[EDIT] online claim info link: http://www100.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/ae-ei/...ish/home2.html

if you have vacation pay pending get your boss to pay out now. if you end up getting it w/ your last cheque the EI peps will consider it "income" and you will not be entitled to EI benefits for a few extra weeks ; /

If you get laid off you only get EI for a certain amount of weeks... I can't remember the exact amount at the moment. But I was on EI from when I was laid-off Construction in Feb 2002 to September 2002. Be careful if you do training too... I did my Security Guard course and it took them 6 weeks to figure out that I could still work during that time and start sending me my cheques again.
