My advice would be spend the money Senior, get something quality you can really put some hours into for the next two years ;)
I mean laptops are expencive enough without having to spend more on expencive upgrades down the road.. hell even another cheap laptop. They just are not efficent enough to upgrade in my mind. === Now on to the reccomendation.. I would personally reccomend an Apple iBook G4. Your looking to spend anywhere from $1200 (deal) to $1600+ (futureshop) plus this puppy will do you good. Sleek, strong, fast, durable and best of all VERY stable. Dramatically less of a chance to score one of the many virus out there as well. Built in wireless network, work in planes/on the road ect.. Here is Apple's store, cool presentation but you don't buy from there. http://store.apple.ca eBay.ca is STOCKED w/ just this sorta thing. http://search.ebay.ca/search/search....0&BasicSearch= These are my opinons, downside is the PC -> Apple conversion and visa-versa. So there are downsides to an apple. Happy hunting Senior. |

Thanks for the input guys. So what's the draw back to the i mac as far as PC-mac compatibility or whatever? Would I not be able to do certain things with it or something?
Misstress, I'll stop by in the next few weeks and say hi, I have the 17th to the 3rd of April off work!! |

Macs can work with PC's if they have to, but PC's tend to not like Macs. |

As for the built in 802.11x, I say WHOOOOOOOOOO! Alot of cafe's have wireless internet access now, so having a wireless card is definately a plus (And the bonus is also that you can find a hot-spot and sit in a park to do your work. :)) Last edited by MissBehavior; Apr 03, 04 at 06:01 AM. |

toshiba and top end ibms are the best windows laptops.
i have an 12" g4 ibook and i love it, but os compatibility isn't really an issue for me. osx is elegant as all fuck, but the changeover from a pc isn't all it's cracked up to be. the sceen real estate is pretty sub par compared to similarily priced windows-based laptops. i'd stay away unless you think the mac holds some significant advantage to you (for me i love the unix back end, the small size, and the quirkyness of learning a new os.) macs are fun little project/secondary boxes though. if you have any mac/pc or software questions let me know, i've used crazy stuff. |
