Underdogs? You mean "Team that's not Vancouver".
Admit it. If Van pulled it off, you'd've been rooting for Detroit just in spite. I know this because I am.
Nobody gave Vancouver any chance. Even half the city. People here are too cynical over playoff games that in no way reflect the team's capability to perform the way they have all bloody season. I mean christ, they took the division yet got ousted harsh in the first round.
I don't blame these people for anything. But I just believe in having a little bit of patriotism for your team. Oh well. As far as I'm concerned, Playoffs are over. Uh, go Jays?
Anyways. My personal opinion on what lost this game. Had nothing to do with Bert and Clout. Okay, maybe a little. Clout was probably the more painful hurt there. Bert we can do without, especially with Ruutu back on the ice (though he would have been a valued asset).
#1: Naslund. Where the hell have you been for the past two weeks? Picking daisies? Trying to plan your fucking vacation after the season's over? Christ almighty, you've got splainin' to do.
#2: Sedins + Sanderson. Whose brilliant idea was this line? Sedins work exceptionally well together, but Sanderson's just to quick down the line. He goes deep into the opponents' defense and then promptly loses the puck because the Sedins have to pass it up to him and he's got no cover. Get Chubarov in that line already.
#3: Defense. Where the hell was it? Sopel and Allen owe a shitload of beer to Jovo and Ohlund. And where the hell was a Jovo/Ohlund line? In today's game, they were honestly the only two players who were giving it their all. Seriously guys, you go down here, it's all over. So when the hell are you waiting for your motivation? I thought the point of the team this year was to completely tighten down on defense so it doesn't flake out come playoff time. So what does our defense do? Flakes out completely. Auld gets so much fucking respect for this series. A rookie goalie comes out after 4 regular season games and pulls of some spectacular saves and nice rebounds and the team returns the favour by giving up sweet opportunities for the opposition.
I think that's it, aside from the Everybody-not-into-it 100%. I could say Cooke is still pounding at it hard, but he's just not shining without support of people like Jovo. Sopel... Just... *argh*. Morrison did his best near the end but it took him a while to get into it.
I'm disappointed. This was supposed to be a big year for us where we didn't flake out. So we feed the naysayers and just completely flake out again.
*sigh*
I'm going to watch Buffy now. Hockey no longer exists for me.
