Montreal vs. Toronto

A good friend of mine is moving to NYC in August, because the lucky bitch got a full-ride scholarship, and I've decided to tag along for part of the move, because I've never been to New York. I figure if I'm out East, I may as well hit up some east coast canadian cities as well, so I was wondering if you could suggest either Montreal, or Toronto. Never been to t-dot, and have been to Montreal a few times, but not in the last few years, so it hardly counts. I suppose Philadelphia could also be an option... I'd most likely be travelling alone, staying in hostels, and checking out all the usual tourist sites as well as the nightlife, so which would you recommend? Any specific places to see/avoid in any of the cities mentionned would also be great.

thanks :)

Séguin will become famous soon enough
Hi, I'm from east Canada.

- www.ravewave.com & www.ravemontreal.com will give you Montreal's info
Montreal has a great scene IMO

- www.torontoraves.com & www.hulla.info will give you Toronto's. I highly suggest checking out a Hullabaloo party, even if your not too big into Happy Hardcore, the vibe there cannot be beat.

- www.xvi.com will give you Ottawa's. Which is where I'm from...... no comment

r4ve on.
i'm into "good" music. haha, i hate that question. hm, let's see, i like funky house (well, all forms of house really), dnb, breaks, ambiant, electro, rock, hip hop, rnb... i like everything.
i'm not worried about traveling alone, i spent 4 mths backpacking (in western europe, granted) and dealt with creepy guys (kicking in the balls really IS effective!), fake cops, and wandering lost in a big city in the middle of the night... i feel pretty comfortable. considering my other traveling option this summer was cambodia... i can handle toronto.

maybe i'll go to both. i love montreal, it was my first choice for undergrad and is now tied for first for law school, so i should probably check it out.

so decypher, what IF it came to montreal and toronto?! (i know shit all about hockey.)

Eck. I don't know about the Dome (gross foam parties with 13 year old hoe bags fxcking in the cages...I saw that during frosh and it was like "Whoa hoaaaa...welcome to Montreal! lol) OR La Boom. They're both typical hip hop/top 40 teeny bopper clubs. If you want some good electronica, go to Stereo and Aria (Stereo is the gay afterhours...my favourite one by far!, and Aria has hip hop until the morning in the upstairs room, also an afterhours). Sona is no more...they closed it and moved it to the Pepsi Forum and changed the name (AMC Forum, where the big AMC theater is at Atwater station). Exit and Unity are both really dope. Unity is an awesome club for house in the gay village. I loved Sky for the longest time...also in the gay village, but the music is a bit more cheesy (more along the lines of dance music than electronica). Blue Dog has a few dope nights...breaks and UK garage. Oh, and if you're going during the summer, go to the beach club...it's where people go AFTER the after hours to keep on dancing or to lie down in the sun under the blazing sun and veg out with some drinks. SOO many good places. If you're into jazz bars, go to Biddles!
