Monologue Help
Awhile ago I made a post asking for opinions as to whether I should pursue theatre or more academic based classes in post secondary.
Well, with the success of Grease I've decided to pursue theatre, for awhile at least.. i'll feel completely unsatisfied if I don't, and I hate having regrets.. at least if I take a chance i'll be fulfilled to some extent. Anywho, i've applied for the two year theatre diploma program at Capilano which is university transferable, and I have an audition for the program on May 3rd. I need to find a published contemporary monologue that's under 3 minutes and I was hoping some of you might have suggestions/recommendations. I'm trying to steer clear of comedy, I want something a bit darker and more dramatic, something with depth that'll be slightly challenging. If any of you can help out, I'd totally appreciate it :) thanks, ~Shadi |

I have to do 2 contrasting 1min contemporary monologues. I havnt picked mine yet, i have one that I usualy do... but its getting a bit old. I am going to be searching franticaly in the next few days, so if i find any cool ones on the net, i will post the links here for you. Break a leg! :)

lazee_girl, I had the most difficult time deciding whether I should apply for the theatre program or the musical theatre program. I *heart* musicals and i'm still sort of uncertain with my decision, but hopefully i'll be able to switch if i'm not completely satisfied with the regular program. Andrea, I'll also post any good sites if I find any.. or any books worth looking in. Best of luck to all of you :) |

Langara has the best program. its three years of intense work. I would love to go there, but they like to take older students with some post secondary acting experience. In my opnion its definatly somthing to shoot for. I want to be a drama teacher so after a 2year ut transfer program I still have to do 3 years of full time university. which will make my post secondary experience a grand total of 7 years!-and it could be more....

It was nerve wracking at first but then it all just came to me. Hey jen it was awsome meeting you today! I'm still not sure how I ended up asking a completely random person if they were on fnk but it was even more surprising when you said ya! Good luck with your singing...it sounded good to me! See you in September ladies! -pEace, josh |

^ I'm sure you guys did great :)
I find out in a month too. My audition went ok.. it wasn't the greatest. I did my monologue really well the first time around but the second time he asked me to do it seductively. Now the way I had initially done it was as a psychotic, controlling girlfriend.. extremely dramatic and intense, doing it seductively haden't even crossed my mind so I paraphrased a bit and messed up my lines :( But we'll see, I still have hope. They asked me to sing as well, I'm pretty confident with my singing so that went ok, i think i'll go with the musical theatre program.. go big or go home right? |
