question for ebay buyers!!
I'm thinking about bidding on this item from the united states. I asked the seller how much shipping with insurance would cost to canada and she told me that it would cost $14.00. now.. that's more than the cost of the actual item I want to buy.
my question is, how important do you guys think it is to buy insurance? I mean... is there a really good chance that this stuff WILL actually get lost? any input would be nice. thanks. --Joanne :P |

i never bought insurance when i bought things off ebay, try going a step up from the ground mail....you may only need insurance if it's really valuable item.
Usually shipping from the US is an arm and leg, do you have a friend living near the border you could get your goods shipped to first? |

Depending on what it is have it sent USPS with tracking and you can see its progress. I think I have only ever lost one item but USPS reimbursed me for it.
I usually send stuff to my friend in Seattle and pick it up off him when I go see him. It is more expensive to send to Canada due to Customs issues and postage. |

if the item is being shipped w/ usps I do not think that insurance is even an option. i have bought a few items from us sellers on ebay and each time i opted for insurance i was told that it was not available.
check the usps website for more info: http://www.usps.com/ |

have it sent to the post office in point roberts and then pick it up from there
that'll save you a ton of money in shipping and you can smuggle it across the boarder and wont have to pay duty or taxes... you might have to pay a little to the post office though |

this is what the seller emailed me:
The shipping with insurance would be much higher than without, I know this sounds crazy, but our USPS has changed their standard way of mailing packages to Canada with insurance. I mailed a fleece skirt last week to Canada and it cost us $14.00- for less than one pound, but if you did not opt to get insurance shipping would only be $7.00- I am not sure what changed you may be able to read and find out more about it at www.usps.com I just know it only applies to Canada and shipping insurance?? Go figure? anyways... maybe it won't be such a big deal if I just didn't get insurance. I'm buying a skirt that's only like $15.00 US and it's not like I wouldn't be able to get it from any other seller on ebay. I just think it would be kind of a waste of money if there's a very good chance that it might get lost.. Winston: how do you get the option to track the item? does it cost extra? anyways, thanks so much for the advice people! :) --Joanne :P |

Parcel tracking is an option you can buy via USPS. I think it costs $2 or something and the item is then tracked via barcode on the USPS website.
