i have the Gemini decks, XL-500II, they arent the best but i'm not complaining... I got them for $100 each. They look almost exactly like tech12s, only negative thing about them is their motor, It just doesnt have the torque.. Depending on the sliperiness of each record, cueing can be very difficult as the platter slows down or even stops when you put your hand on the record. definately a great starter deck. Since I have never tried the other ones I cant say which is better

i've got numark tt1650s, if i could go back in time i would definately gotten some better tables, mainly cause one of them is a lemon, and the motor kicks into full reverse (at about 100rpm, im not kidding!!) if you back cue it too much and the rpm rating is half what it is set to when the pitch is set exactly on the 0% pitch mark, its still usable but a lot harder to use this way. my other tt1650 is working pretty well though.
on another note i cant wait until i can afford some numark ttx's. |

I went for mid-range.
Stanton STR8-100s...I think they're great. Three different speeds, pitch adjustment up to 25%, pitch correction, digital output, manual pitch bend, etc. And if you're lookin' for top of the line...I'd take a 150 model Stanton over Tech12s anyday. Why? Well...isn't it obvious? The world's strongest torque and special suspension...how can you argue otherwise? I'm savin' up for 150s. I'm not going to slag Techs because they are remarkable decks...and of course, the standard. However, Technics have stolen the limelight for many years, it's now good to see some more competition and variety. Last edited by EMERGENCE; Apr 30, 04 at 02:26 PM. |

^ in regards to your post emergence , torque really means nothing compared to the shelf life and dependability of technics. They've "stolen the limelight for years" because of a simple fact: they defined 'industry standard'. A technics 1200 table with last you a lifetime, and if you scratch or spin on anything else it'll feel broken.
The only better table on the market is the Vestrex PDX-2000 , , except the price is a lot to bear for a first timer. |

torque is just one factor in the makings in of a good deck.
saying that having higher torque in a turntable, makes it a better overall turntable is wrong. its like saying because a dogde viper has more torque then a ferrari, its a better car... durability is defnitely the top criteria for me, and the tech has proven itself over 30 years. now if it only came with a key lock feature... Neither. Tech 12s or bust. If I really had to... Vestax PDX-2000. I once went to play at a friend's house party. They had some piece of shit Numarks set up. I just but my records back in the car and gave my slot to another friend. |

OK here a techies view on the whole thing. Right now on the market if I was buying a turntable with my hard earned money I would be buying the brand new AMDJ table. Now I know I have been a big supporter of Tech's forever but these new AMDJ's are really affordable and have many options that I like. Especially if you intend on having them in use for a long time. Check them out every Dj I know (1000's) that I have demo'd them too have loved them including some of the top Dj's from Van.
