I actually had an interesting experience growing up with smoking. All my life (up until 5 years ago) my mom smoked. And my asshole of a father did not. But then my mom one day quit cold turkey, and has not smoked since. And my father all the sudden started. So all my life my father telling me how wrong it was to smoke and how terrible it was for you. It was kind of like a slap in the face. And I saw how my mom got so much better when she was'nt smoking. And saw my father getting worse and worse. And I got a comparison of how you are when you smoke and when you don't.

And I don't condem people for smoking. Smokers can do whatever they want. You are who you are and if you choose to smoke its up to. And I have friends (Blankshots) who have or are trying to quit smoking. And all you can do is suport them. And be there for them if they need anything. And if they cheat or start up again, not to get mad. But encourage them to try again. But it is really hard to do. But it can be done.

What I don't understand is why anyone would even take up smoking to begin with, what with all the information that's out there. The whole habit is pretty disgusting. It's not like this is the 1940's...we're informed people now.

Eh.

Threw my pack out the car window after the DA house party and haven't had a full one since (only a couple puffs).
Honestly I never saw myself quitting, because I really do enjoy smoking. But when I decided to get back in shape and hit the treadmill and couldn't run for more than 2 minutes without coughing and wheezing, I realized it was time to stop. Hacking up tar and other shit has definitely not been the most pleasant experience.. I threw up last week from coughing so hard. haha not fun.
Best of luck to you Sariel, Mark (Smokey) and all the others out there who are quitting. Keep a strong mindset and you'll have no troubles :)

My opinion is just pro-choice. I want to decide want is good and not good for myself in my life in every aspect of it. but not only that i want to break down the preset social norms we are all used to so maybe for once others can see without tunnel vision. In the hope that people like you will judge me less.

I never mentioned once that i want to fuck up my 'environment as much as possible'. i wish i could see the earth in her natural beauty, without all of our 'improvements' to her...

The point of my previous post wasn't really about smoking, I myself don't smoke much at all, i'm not a non-smoker, but not a full out smoker either. I smoke when i want to, and don't when i don't. My post was meant to be more an attack on the social norms of our society and my feelings that they effect every decision you make; it parallels high school drama and how in most peoples quest to be popular they had to cave into peer pressure at some point. now if you never did this, and did what you wanted without ever caring about what your peers thought you should be doing; you my friend are my case in point. My mission is to carry on this individual thought on a much more grandiose scale, i wish to carry this thought pattern on into the realworld that we live in.

oh and Mr. Max Lazarus, if you don't want to pay my hospital bill, move to the US alright, cuz the handicap child you may or may not have is taking to much money out of my pocketbook too. It's a two way street bro, i'm there for you if your there for me.
That's cool that it's your choice, but when you get cancer and waste away in a hospital bed, I don't want to pay to have you kept alive. On the topic of dying, you should have seen what my aunt looked like when she was dying from lung cancer from smoking. I would not wish that fate upon anyone.

People wonder why our health care is in shambles, it's cuz we kick the shit out of our bodies and expect a doctor to fix it. A little preventitive health care would go a long way.

Whoa.... a lot more people on this board seem to be quitting smoking than I would have thought..

No Trace - I am quitting because I dislike smoking... I hate the taste, and it makes me feel like crap most of the time. Quitting has given me a huge burst of energy, and hey, the house is really clean, cause I need something to do other than smoke. :)

Ryan - I am going to hold you to that gold star! I want it next time I see ya.

quitting smoking....thats and oxymoron and a half. (but dont get that to discourage you)
smoking is hard to quit knowing u can do it anytime...
quitting is easier if you now youll get in trouble if you get caught...then its easier to quit.
its all about having control over yourself...knowing your willpower. some dont have it, i know i learned my lesson (smoking is bad folks...i thought id never be a smoker...but i amm...ahh)
good quittings folks....

LOL... sorry Geoff, it's pretty much over between me and the ciggies.... It was a long relationship, and we had some great times.... Ciggies kept me going during some really rough times, and I loved them for it...
But it was time to end.... and hey, I have a lot more money to spend on my other bad habits now!

The first week is over, and I am doing pretty good with the whole quitting thing... the last 24 hours have been a trial though.
