i just checked out the AMS ubc joblinks site n damn there are sooooooo many jobs. it's beautiful.

most of them require you to be registered with UBC or SFU but many don't either.

Any IT geeks on here? I'd be looking for a network/tech support type position.

job market is hurt in my opinion. too many peopel wanting mad experiances and nobody willing to give chances to people with not as much experiance or none. Also depends what job you looking for. It is getting a little better "apparently" to me it hasn't though but this is just my personal take on it

Most people I know of that were in IT before the .com boom aren't really having too much trouble getting a job from how I see it.

How long you been working in IT?

Just under 3 years now. I started my career when things were at there worst, right after the bubble burst. Was just on workopolis and monster, not a whole lot of opportunities, but allot more than say a year ago.

There are IT jobs in the Vancouver area. Check out bctechnology.com... they usually have some good leads. It all depends on what you can do, I guess, and what kind of experience you have.

I'm a Call Center Technical Coordinator (a bit of a mouthful) for NCO (formerly RMH). I moved over here for the job too, actually. BCTechnology usually has some good stuff, though... just depends on your specialty, I guess.

It took me a Year to find a job after I got laid-off of Construction. I did IT stuff for about five years. Blah to that now... (Oh yah, if you have any Aviation Experience, check out YVR. I know there are a few places hiring for Ramp Positions.)

Just found out yesterday our entire datacenter and department are being outsourced to CGI. Looks like I might be making a move sooner than I thought.

Yeah, no its not. Haha.. it became NCO at the beginning of the month, despite the fact that the signage hasn't changed.

if you were in sale's, construction, or tourism you could find a job no problem....however i dont think there is much demand for tech jobs..to many qualified people for too few positions..but if you have a good resume and are aggressive with your job search then you should be able to find a job.

I guess I would be classified as somewhat of an IT geek... more so I help people in that industry find jobs. (www.rht.com).

The IT market right now is SLOWLY begin to turn around. I'm not sure what you've been up to in TO but hopefully you have some really great experience to offer that you gained while being out there. Competition is tough over here due to layoffs and those in-between jobs.

Cheers.

Hey cool,
I just applied for a position on Robert Half. I’ve spent the last 2 years working for a rapidly growing third party logistics company owned by Canada Post. My title was Technical Support Analyst; I was just recently promoted to Network Analyst. Over the last year we’ve completed many projects and I’ve been fortunate enough to gain exposure and experience with a very broad range of technology.( can you tell I’m practicing for my cover letter :)

peace
