Model agency, or something else?
I surf all over the place, and sometimes I go to http://www.craigslist.org to check out stuff in the Vancouver section (link at bottom right of craigslist). And I noticed this place called Gloss Models frequently has ads. It looks like they pay $75+/hour for models, and they may have a few other jobs.
But they look a little suspicious, and my scam detector is flashing a warning light. There is no strong evidence that they are a fraud, but I bet if someone sent in some pictures or contacted them, it would not be long before they were asked to cough up the cash. Or work for free. Call me cynical, but I've dug up a few scams before. This agency has ads up regularly for models, photographers, website developer etc. All from the modelling mecca known as Abbotsford. They claim to be associated with branch offices in several USA locations including LA. Anyway angels, if someone wants to have a little P.I. fun, your mission, should you accept it, is to make contact with the model agency by sending in a picture or call them up and see what happens. Or maybe apply for the photographer assignments. If it turns out to be a scam, the BBB can be notified and you will have done a good deed and saved good coin for someone. You will have helped not ordinary people, but hotties - potential models, of both sexes. Is there a more noble mission? And if the agency turns out to be legit, well you had some fun and maybe got to meet those hotties. OK, now get to work. And check in here when you find something. I want to bust this case wide open. I've generally been told to steer clear of agencies that market to models and actors, as well as agencies that require you to take classes or photos.
If you're looking for a good agency they should specifically target to modelling OR acting, not both. I checked out the site, it does seem like a scam but then again if you ask me agencies like John Casablanca's are a scam as well. I'm sure there is a slight possibility of making it big with them but very very few people do, most people just lose money. |
