Good argument... but at the same time, the turntable used itself as an instrument would be an electronic instrument, no? I mean, it's produced given analogue inputs but so are analogue synthesizers. The 303, 909 and 808 are all analogue synths, but I wouldn't for a second think that Hardfloor are in any way non-electronic.

i dont know much about synthesizers, but i know that turntables are, by nature, analogue. all it does is amplify the vibrations it receives from the stylus. i think a good comparison is with a singer, who amplifies/produces the vibrations with the vocal chords and mouth.

True, but we don't do it through electronic means.

Theoretically I suppose you could say all records are electronic music, but they weren't originally used as an instrument... I dunno... afaik that's similar to how analogue synthesizers work... Anybody done any synth engineering and could tell us otherwise?

Actually, It's possible it's all done through EPROMs in which case I'm off and yeah, I suppose we could argue for the turntable, as itself, to be a non-electric instrument.
