virus ?

so my computer was fine yesterday when i turned it off. today i come home and the computer is on, but now there are these strange short little lines that keep comming up whenever there is any sort of motion or animation on the screen. and the computer already froze up on my just after i re-started it. does this sound like it could be a problem with my video card, or could it be one of those viruses that has been going around. my sister fucked up my computer before a few times so i think it is very much possible that she may of downloaded some sort of virus. does anyone know is theres a virus that would be able to mess with the video card?

i used to have a problem with cs, I upgraded drivers for my ex's geforce 2 64mb.

I had to re-install the old drivers to fix the problem.

I suggest you give it a try. I've never heard of a virus that fucks with video cards.

i would do all the standard virus checks, if nothing comes up take out and reinstall your video card, if you dont know hwo to do that i would take it in to a computer store, they will know how to do it fast and safe. If it still happens after you do that, ask them to put in a temp video card (the one i go to they will do this for free cus i always bring all my problems there and they are really nice)

did some virus scans, nothing came up. took the video card out, cleaned it off put it back in. no problems. i'll just wait and see. im gonna be re-formatting pretty soon anyways.

video card is: Nvidia ge-force 3 ti-500 64mb

try updating the drivers to make sure

updating the drivers could've been the problem in the beginning

use old drivers untill you really, really need to upgrade.

yeah ive found that new drivers usually slow performance down, especially if its an older card. sure, they say its backwards compatible, and it is, but they're optimized more for the newer cards and just add useless header information for older cards.

update video drivers & directx
and yes, sometimes upgrading does cause problems. If it doesent make a difference go back to the original.

yeah.. it could be a DX problem as well

In which if you upgrade DX you cant remove those drivers.

so try the default drivers.

eventually you will need to upgrade DX to 9b. But let the game remind you to download it :)
