Gliding: the main thing is having one foot with the weight while the other one glides, then you need to learn to shift the weight from the weight foot to the non weight foot so there is no lag inbetween the weight shifting....its all about trial and error... there is no proper way to do it.,..cuase i kno that doing it by feel is by far the best way...cause the proper way sometimes doesnt look good
Dancing in general: bite moves from dancers, modify them, and youll be surprised how you learn to move your body according, then play out the moves til theyre just subconciously done, then umm modify the modified moves, and youll be baffled on how you find yourself rocking new moves that fit your style. Popping and locking: get a grasp on moving around to that....hand popping, shoulder jerks head movements, and sit infront of a body mirror with some breaks or electronica... be creative, i am a personal fan of disses hehe break style and popping style too lol... hope that intro gave u ssomething to think/work on. |

Glad to hear there is still interest in this kind of stuff.
The best place to find videos and precise definitions for dance techniques such as liquid, popping, waving, gliding etc is http://www.reflective.net. Check out the Liquid Pop Collective Dance forums in there. I learned most of my liquid and waving from that community. Another good place is http://www.mrwiggleshiphop.net, again, check the forums. Good luck learning! It's a lot of fun... after a couple months of practice you will definitely be ripping it up! |

yea i use to break in highschool and when i got out i only knew about the friday harbour classes... i heard there's a girl crew over at scotia dance center and another open nite at roundhouse, but i just need more info on it. i dont want to go to a place where ppl are hostile to noobs. i have the bare basics down.. i want intense training. eaggeerrrr to learn more bboy/bgirl uprocks and slowly move to more stylistic moves.

Popping is the flexing of your upper body muscles to the beat of a song. That is literally the first step. Second is to move your arms and body in different positions to the beat and incorperate glides and waves and whatever else comes to your head. You can generally learn how to pop your legs as well later on. Locking is by far my favorite, but hard to make look good because you are supposed to express the music through this dance. For all you who think that you are locking if you are just pointing in a bunch of random places... you are wrong. The acual lock isn't a point, it is the move you see people do at the end of a routine to the beat. I can explain what the lock is without showing you, but pointing does not equal locking.
