Looks like Deeb and I are out of the running for this one. Best of luck to Rhia, Charlie, Seany, and of course Shawn dsl. Take not, I'll vote based on your skill behind the decks so cash incentives will not help you. I hope everyone else does likewise, cuz I'm afraid this competition may become a popularity contest. Remember to listen to EVERYONE's demo. Take note, were the mixes smooth? Do they know how to properly EQ or is the volume going up and down throughout the mix? Did they try anything creative, for example beat juggles, cuts, scratches, maybe incorporating accappellas? Does their recording start professionally w/ the first beat or is it dead air? Also track selection? Did they use 6 Anjunabeats or 6 Sumbliminal records in their mix? Were half their tracks Ronald van den Beuken or Dumonde remixes? Stuff like this really sticks in my mind when listening to a demo and hopefully fnkers can judge for themselves what makes a good mix, especially since you're going to be listening to the winner live at the SK stages. For an example of a really well done mix check out Jimmy Chou's latest demo. Its technically proficient and there's some nice variety in his playlist.

SOME people have time to sit at home and re-record over and over until they get it perfect. Any chump can go get their mix professionally edited! Beat Juggles, cuts and scratches are all wonderful man but that doesn't make a great demo. A great demo is something with flow and awsome track selection etc. There are a lot of factors here besides "technically perfet mixing" and a great demo. In fact some of the most technically perfect mixers in the world are boaring; ie: Paul Van Dyk the "Trance Robot". the guy just stares at his mixer and pumps a fist every now and then. :p Stage presence and popularity are huge man. Like give Charlie for example. Everyone loves him so that is just another reason why should play. He's nice and friendly and an awsome guy to party with so people want to see him be the DJ. Whats wrong with that? Who made you in charge of Judging? :p Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the vote budy! ;) You'd get my vote but your already playing! ~Sean Last edited by Seany G; Jun 05, 04 at 08:58 AM. |
