House Music On The Beat
so,i was actually listening to the radio on like friday afternoon...and to my surprise there was house music!
I dont understand why they are spinning house music on an urban radio station when in theory house music doesnt have much to do with urban music ie hip hop. I mean when you sit back and think about it,drum&bass was heavily influeneced by hardcore and breakbeats, wouldnt it make better sense to the dumbasses at the beat to spin dnb as opposed to house? The only down side to dnb getting mainstream airplay is that itd probabally eventually get gobbled up by pop culture and we can kiss our precious dnb good bye. Its already happening in the UK,which is sad but like everything underground, its bound to become mainstream and raped by the media&pop culture. for instance...HIP HOP. INPUT NOW! |

in north america, house has a lot more to do with urban music than breaks & dnb do. house & hiphop essentially come from the same roots, they're like twins who were separated at birth. Drum'n'Bass evolved out of the early hardcore rave scene in the UK before it was exported to NA, whereas house & hiphop were born here.
Both house & hiphop have grown up into vast & varied genres, both with a more palatable mainstream side, and both with a rawer, 'underground' side. Mainstream house & mainstream hiphop both rely heavily on RnB influenced vocals, and are probably the two most mass-appealing sounds in the nightclubs of north america. Consequently, you get a lot of the same people liking both styles. |

i've heard that The beat is no longer just an "Urban" music station. They now play new "pop" music along with the R&B they usually do.
Z95 is now playing the 80's and 90s stuff. Jack is playing 70's and early 80's stuff. I don;t know thats just what I heard;) |

They basically just said thats the way it is and thats the way its going to be. thanx. |

On the beat they said that hose music is becomming more popular in Vancity and so that makes it "urban" therefore they are putting it on air. I like house and some of the djs they have had are better then others. I think they play it thursdays 6-7 and sat 8-10. I want to hear Hirshee on the beat :)
