I quit back in January, but am smokin again.
Michelles right, just gotta put your mind to it. If you don't really want to quit smoking it'll never happen. If you're smoking a pack a day, ween yourself down to half a pack or less. Then just go cold turkey. Every time you have a smoke *ie:day 4* you're pretty much back at day one. Remember: it's a behaviour modification program; habit. If you usually have a smoke and coffee first thing in the morning, don't. etc etc best of luck |

This is the no-bullshit way of quitting. It supposidly takes 5 days for your body to become free of addiction, but your mind is the hard part.
save up your butts for about a week, put the ashes into a glass of water and drink it. Your mind, and probably your body will reject the idea of smoking ever again (that is if you associate the glass of crap with the cigarrets you smoke). disgusting i know, but if you've already tried everything, or really aren't trying enough this is the easiest way to do it. I was about to do it myself, but i went away to a Meditation retreat in merrit for 10 days and haven't smoked since. Cravings cause bad Sankharas! |

It takes approx 3 weeks to build/break a habbit. I don't know about you, but it's day 6-9 without a smoke that hurt the most. |

^You make a good point, but abusing a dog and making yourself want to vomit everytime you light a smoke probably has different emotional effects :P At least you stop smoking right?
I can't vouch for how this method works, never done it myself but all i know is that everyone i know that has tried never smoked again. As for me, I wasn't exactly physically addicted. I only smoked when stressed out, or if I was out with people who smoke. And yes everyone smokes so luckily at that time I usually only saw my b/f who wasn't a smoker. When I was on the retreat I didn't even think about a cigarrette... or pot really for that matter. The meditation techniques and the reasons behind them were a good kick in the ass for me. They spoke alot about cravings and aversion and what that can do to well.. ultimately your karma and in turn your mental and emotional being. Long story short alot of people just drop habits after discovring this technique so it might be something for people to look into. And it doesn't only help addictions to material things either. |

Thank you everyone for giving me suggestions on how to quit. It is most defintily appreciated on my behalf. ummM the above quoted suggestion soundz kind of disgusting but it makez sence! mEh I mine as well give anything a shot :) "Do you actually want to quit? Because its pretty much all a mental thing. If you have the will power to quit, you'll be able to battle the cravings." ^ VERY TRUE miska VERY TRUE ^ lol! Yes I actually do want to quit. Some of the time I just get fucking disgusted with smoking ... spark a but and it tastes like shit etc. Then I follow up by not smoking for a while. Although a week or soO later im bak at it. hmmM ! ? ! What could it be ! ? ! Possibly the party environment that im around constantly. * sigh * I plan to persue this to the end. hahaA Once again *** thank you all :) |

Smokeing Sucks
I use to smoke lots, but i quit and havent had a smoke in a long time. Hell i cant even remember the last time i smoked a ciggerete. The way i quit is simple. I went to jail, got thrown in YDC (youth detention center) for almost 6 months, and you cant smoke in youth jails. when i got out i lit a smoke eand almost coughed my lungs out. So if you want to quit , commit a serious crime and get locked up., unless you are over 18 then you go to adult jail, which you are surronded by smokers who want to ravege your asshole

Hmm...I quit about 7 years ago and this is how I did it...
I used to be in track before I started smoking. I could run 15K at a fast pace without it being too hard. Then I started smoking. One day I decided to go running again. Well I ran my 15K at the same pace I used to and I almost died!!! Once you feel as though you can't breath because of something you will most likely never do that thing again... SOOOO...A good way to quit is go for a 5K (if you never used to run before) or 15K (if you used to be a runner) run and go HARD and don't stop even if you feel as though you are going to drop! Believe me, you'll never wanna smoke again! |

I quit at IMF.
Threw my pack away and haven't smoked since. My friend was just diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, he's 20 years old and has been smoking for 3 years, about half a pack a day. Nobody else in his family smokes, either. I have a cough that wont go away. I dont crave them anymore. If I do get a feeling where I wouldent mind one, I have to think "I'm not invincible." |
