Cruise liner jobs?

Has anyone on here ever worked for the cruise liner, and if so, would you be able to send me information on how one goes about getting a job with one, and the pertinent details I would need to know?

Thanx

hah! good luck. i applied to a dozen cruise ship companies over 2 years ago. i found this website that sent out a package with all applicable info for applying. i got 2 postcards back from 2 companies stating they werent hiring for my experience level, and finally i heard back from walt disney world. i actually got the job in WDW, because i had applied for the disney cruises. but i realized cruises wont usually hire peeps without previous experience. if you wanted to try for WDW, check out www.cast-a-way.com. thats their hiring agency. the whole process took me about 1 1/2 years before i got to go down. and you definately dont do it for the money. lemme know if you wanted any more details on that, i've got the scoop. :D

Working on a cruise ship sounds so much better then it really is.

- You get paid EXELLENT. Most of the time you are not taxed because its overseas.
- You are literally on call 24 hours..
- You sleep in a space not much bigger then a walk in closet.
- You will most likely get a job as a janitor or something to do with food prep.. Most cruise lines only hire front end people if they have a ton of experience or a tourism degree..
- Food safe, first aid, serving it right certificates are sometimes mandatory.
- You get limited free time.
- You have to sign a six month or year contract

Basically it wouldnt be that bad if you dont have any attatchments.. ie: gf/bf, pets, apartment, school, etc. KIDS! lol. I have never worked on a cruise line.. But I was really interested in it and took a course in hotel and resort management.. My teacher worked on a cruise line before teaching so he filled me in on all the dirt! Good luck.. I hope this info helps!!!!! =)

moi? I haven't even left yet!

I think it depends on the company you work for and your position.

Basically I would be looking for something customer orientated, as I have a whole shit load of customer service type skills...

Also have a fair bit of manager experience, but no degree, so I don't think that would count for a whole lot.

No commitments to hold me here, and I think travelling the world (and getting paid to do it) would be one of the most amazing experiences life has to offer. I would assumme that I would be on a contract, but that would not bother me in the slightest.

Does one have to go through an application/placement agency, or are there other ways to apply?

Oh, and if you need to get to port, do you have to cover those travel expenses yourself, or is that subsidized?

^that thing is crap. I called them today actually inquiring about work...all was going well until the bitch told me theres like a 400 dollar fee for using thier services.

its a scam dont deal with those bastards.

my buddy leland got a job working on princess cruise ships, he left back in march he signed a 6 month contract with them to do videographer work. Unless your aiming for work like that I wouldnt bother.

I got hired as a chef de partis/petty officer, they fly me to Florida. When my contract is up they fly me anywhere I please. I have payed out $350 in medical shit, but I only get 120 back, but whatever. spend money to make money. www.hollandamerica.com is the company.

A hiring agency got my resume off of www.hcareers.ca and called me up and we took it from there. It literally fell in my lap, I did nothing. I wish I had more to tell you but I donut!

Did you have to pay anything to be set up with the website?

What happened to the quote function? It vanished...

Nope, just uploaded my resume (cutand paste, really) and sat back on my laurels. My friend Ian works there, he takes care of Texas.
