Sennheisers.... Holy SHIT!!!
So I'd been using Sony MDR-V300's for my music listening for a year and a half. They seemed to be decent enough but I'd notice a bit of tinitus developing over this usage. Definitely not good. Solution? Do some research and find out what are the best cans on the market are.
The name Sennheiser seemed to pop up quite a bit so when I finally headed down to A & B Sound to sample a few cans, I made sure to try them out. Sweet Jesus Mary Joseph! I had no idea headphones could be this good. Every single sound is perfectly isolated from one another that on the demo CD I was listening to, I was hearing things I hadn't heard at all with the other makes I tried before. And the aural imaging is phenomenal; almost like having a 5.0 on your head (no sub, of course). And the comfort! I've never worn headphones that fit so snuggly onto my cranium. Were it not for the music playing from them, I might not even be able to tell they were there. When listening to my old Sony's, the most I could tolerate from them would be roughly an hour's worth at three-quarters my stereo's potential output. After that, fatigue would set in and I'd have to take a break before throwing them on again. With these Senns, I'm going onto my fourth straight CD, my stereo's potential output a good 4-6 notches above what I could just barely tolerate with the Sony's, and not the slightest bit sore in the ears. Incredible! And this is with the HD500's, no less! Compared with the best of Sony's they had on hand (and there were some quite classy models available), this so-called 'budget' Sennheiser model is trumps them easily. In short? Fuck the rest. Sennheiser definitely is the best. Now excuse me while I go to re-discover my library of music. |

One thing about the Sennheisers.. becareful with the headphone jack, it's not very strong.. and yes Doom know's that a 1/8" plug isn't meant to be particularly strong, but, from in a fall of 3 feet with the weight of an mp3 player on it, the sleave around the jack snapped, leaving Doom with a pair of Sennheiser that play the left channel of an audio stream quite well.

man ive been saying that senns are the best for a while now! for spinning i use hd280's and they're the best for sound isolation as well as sound quality! only bad thing though is that they all have this model defect that results in cracking around where the tightening thing is... but its not a big deal as long as you buy it from a store which honors the 2yr warranty it has
also, with hd280's, they start to sound even better the more you use them because you have to break them in. ive heard some people just leaving them plugged into a radio or something whenever they arent using it so that it helps to break them in and make the sound even crisper |
