i totally believe in god, i dont believe in religion, i think when we die our being turns into its pure state (energy) and we are free to roam the cosmos, i believe god is nothing more then a being who can manipulate energy to his will.
I believe if humans can survive the next 200 years we will be gods. |

I don't believe in god, i believe there is something out there but i am not gonna give it a name, as i have never seen it.
I believe there is life out there, because quite frankly with that much space, and exploration possibly, we have only b een able to explore maybe the tinies bit of space out there, and i mean tiny. I don't really believe in ghosts as a physical form but i'm sure there are things similar like that |

i believe in spirits\souls.
i think there is a greater force\being\whatever, and the only time it comes into our lives\effects us is when we let it. but when it bakes down to it, we control ourselves and have an effect on our outcomes. i believe that each religion has similar "guidelines", things like dont kill each other. dont steal, dont cheat, dont lie, respect your surroundings, ect. i believe in following these to the best of my capabilities. taoism is pretty interesting, and im still studying into it. |

Does anyone know GAIA theory? I saw a great "Nature of Things" episode on the idea that the earth is its own living organism. Anywho, the guy who thought this out was completely at peace because he didn't see himself as an individual organism on this planet, but fleck of organization in deep time that contributed to the functioning of the greater whole. And a great whole it is.
Provided we either don't destroy the earth or get blown up by aliens, it sounds pretty good to me. |

I don't personally believe in god. Religion has provided us with some positive moral guidelines to follow. However I don't believe in religion that believes in god either. Religion has been the major reasoning behind some of the largest crimes against humanity in our short history on this planet. I believe people are using thier god/religion (which they can't physically prove exists) as an excuse for their problems/actions. Which is very bad, if you've done something positive then you've done it yourself not god. The same applies if you've done something negative however you should be held accountable for your actions and hopefully learn to be a better person because of it. I will never hold it against someone that believes in religion and ask that they don't hold my beliefs against me....we all need something to believe in. Religion has in provided a means to a positive lifestyle and way of thinking for millions of people over the years. At the end of the day it's your own choice that determines your future.
If you do happen to share the same views as I do or even if you want a different perspective, try reading the Tibettan Book of the Dead. It is a translation of one of the oldest religions in the world. I'm a physics person myself and this book takes almost a scientific approach to thier religion. Check it out. You'[re ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to you magazine, Vertigo. Seriously though, I agree quite strongly with your thoughts here. While beleiving in a higher power is healthy and in many cases necessary for people to live happy lives I find that organized religion is very much a control mechanism to scare people into a state of ignorance. Blindly believing the unbelievable simply because someone told them they would go to hell if they didn't.
