spinw hatever gets you going. if you standing there spinning some music you dont like, your dj'ing with be very misserable. as for spinning at spooky or dooms, that will not happen dude, espically when you dont know much about dj'ing and dont knwo what to spin, and prolly dont have a vinyl collection whatsoever.
get some breaks/hiphop, start spinnin, keep working hard for the next 6 months, then when your feelign comfortable behind the decks, then come back and ask to spin somewhere. |

if you want to learn to dj..... buy some gear (decks, mixer, and good headphones) buy some records buy a decent stereo system but some more records learn to live a light-free existence in your basement with your eardrums throbbing buy more records go to parties (and clubs if you're old enough), trainspot and try to make some friends who are also learning to mix and hang out with them....make sure that anytime you're at a party you figure out who's throwing it, go up to them, introduce yourself, tell them what a wicked time you're having, and tell them that you're just learning to mix......DO NOT ASK THEM FOR A BOOKING UNTIL THEY RECOGNIZE YOU... buy more records develop a mighty hump from constantly bending over your decks buy more records learn to REALLY like instant noodles buy more records don't worry about a mix cd unless you're really confident that what you're making won't embarass you in a year buy more records once you've mastered beatmatching without a trainwreck for an hour 90% of the time look for a smaller party that you can get booked at for free....this is where your "going to parties and making friends" should be paying off, because it's largely who you know that gets you booked......ask the promoter nicely, offer to come help set-up, whatever you can..... if you can get this far you should be able to figure out the rest on your own..... shit, man, good luck, but if were you i'd be more worried about my basic english and spelling skills first..... |

go to those record stores tell them you're just starting out ask them to pick out what's new and hot in each genre listen to the records once you find some stuff you like ask them if they have anything that's like it and listen to that..... DO NOT GO IN TO A RECORD STORE AND DO THIS UNLESS YOU PLAN ON SPENDING AT LEAST $50 IN THAT STORE....there's nothing more annoying to a record shop owner/clerk than some noob who comes in, pesters them for a big pile of records, listen to them for an hour, keeps going up and asking for more, obviously likes some of the tracks, then leaves without buying a single plate..... |

Go with all of them and expand your options.
