computers confuse me way to much

i have no pictures to put on my avtar because every time i edit one to the right size, the computer turns the file to bmp instead of jpeg or somthing like that. does anyone know how i can get a piture on to here???

just click FILE in the paint program and then click SAVE AS and save as a jpeg
