Andy Warhol
So, I went to the Art Gallery yesterday to see the Andy Warhol display. Wow. That man was a nut. In a good way. Everything was there, from his simple sketches to his huge works of repetitive neon screenprints. The whole display shows how Andy lead the introduction to the whole Post Modern movement. Every sketch breaks so many boundaries of the 1950's, there's a whole room dedicated to him poking fun at the Cold War. It's great! and so inspiring! It's really worth checking out.
The Andy Warhol display runs until September 8th. I showed my student card and got in for 8 dollars. It takes about an hour to walk through it all, and it's a warm dry place to hang out and get out of the rain. Yay for Po-mo! :) |

it's not the cans of soup that are amazing it is the artist that gets the idea to create something that IS art consisting of all these campbell's soup cans and it is the era of time that those soup cans represent- mass production, prosperous, wasteful America. It's something you definitely have to see to put it all in perspective though, I guess. |

I love the sarcasm used in his works, for example, painting Mao flourescent pink. That's just hilarious. I guess using humor was a good tactic for showing his work in the early 1950's-1960's. People weren't as open to that kind of humor as we are today, I guess it lightened everyone up a little. |
