Flyer Art
Well a little while a go me and a friend who lives in Montreal now were goin through ALL the flyers we have from the passed years. And i noticed how much work was put into them. So BIG, so innovative and so creative. Totally representing the theme of the party . . . just made you wanna go to it. Like super sweet flyers, Phantasia flyers, Matrix, Imix . . . just to name a few.
But now, i dont see it happen anymore. Flyers are usually very small, with LOTS of writings on it. Ive seen a few good flyers out there and ive given credit . . . but im not going to mention names here for the sake of promotion. I mean just saw a flyer the other day, and it was TINY. I was expecting somethin MASSIVE. Just a lil tiny flyer with tons of writing on it. Now my question is this. Did we loose tallent somewhere along the line? Becasue thats very unlikely. Like i said ive seen some greate work from people around. Or is it that promoters dont want to improve and spend money on the visual/art aspect of advertisement. Or are we all environmentalists and dont wanna waste paper? Any thoughts? |

I know wut your saying....
I just find theres a lack of creativity for parties now.. it's just lets throw a party! I remember when you use to goto some where like FF or Laramy's the flyer table use to jump out at you and you'd wanna pick up the flyers.. And as time went on.. you'd have to look for the flyers cause nothing would catch your eye. But then again... Maybe now people aren't goin for the cute stuff... Because back then the things on flyer were cute lil'character or soemthing a long tho lines, now it's just throw a name on a flyer and put some hot slut on it andyou have a flyer! maybe thats wut ppl look for now.. ?? |

Flyers bigger then you head.. haha.. those were great!!!
Best idea for a flyer tho... was the teamhardcore calander... because almost every party was on that flyer, nad it obviously promoted it let alone had like every production companies name on it! and it was like bigger than you BODY! |

You're damn right Lisa. I like it simple. I still think JLF had the best flyers ever with Faster and Jungle For Dummies. I also liked the flyers for Rinse (NYE party held in a laundrymat, flyers were like cloth tags you find on clothing, it was so cool) and nickel bag of funk (wee flyer stuck in a dime bag) simplicity and innovation GET IT RIGHT. |

thats pretty much what i was getting at. I for one, am not looking for POSTERSIZED flyers, and as it is mentioned a few post up, somethin simple but innovative. |
