I have Senn 280s too, they sound good but are cracking on the headband ends, common problem. If we all complain maybe they will change the design and fix them with better parts. They have a 2 year warranty. I got mine from etronics.com, good price. Not sure what I would get as replacement.
The Sony 700s are known to be bassy (and popular). There is a giant thread on tranceaddict.com about headphones http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/s...threadid=29639 Someone there posted a link to a recent comparison review at Scratchworx http://www.skratchworx.com/reviews/headphonetest.htm |

I recommend the 700s for learning to play and for everyday use. I tired learning with 500's, they were crap, then tried those expensively tiny pin-hole technique headphones, and could not hear a bloody thing that I was doing. I don't know if anyone else has this problem with the tech's, but I was a frickin' gongshow with those things on my head. The moment I bought 700's, I felt myself improve drastically from the first week I used them, and honestly they have been my favorite so far. But I used the studio headphones (AKG's) one time, found it to be alot more clear for the highs and mids (while playing at home)... but the headphones themselves were too quiet for me when I tested them at a gig. I Couldn't really hear as loud as I should have been. But then again, that's just me. I love my 700's but I can't find a happy-medium between the two. For anyone who has used 700's a while, and has recently switched to something else, what do you recommend for home and big system use? and why? |

Akeel's quick guide to headphones.
(keeping it brief because it's been done too many times) Sony 500's - cheap and decent - will break eventually Sony 600's - Best all around. Good price point, last 4ever and sound great live and for monitoring Sony 700's - Design flaw leads to them cracking in the ear band - not covered by warranty. Technics RP1200 - great sound, very durable, i'd buy these over any sony's, but I have big ears so they arent comfortable. Technics DJ1200 - just came out, they have shiny chrome on them. Thats all I know. Pioneer HDJ-1000 - best headphones yet for dj'ing :) sound is excellent, super light and durable, big ear cup for my big ears. Sennheisers - i'd use these for studio monitoring, they have a few specific dj'ing models but they usually break quickly. |

Actually Sennheiser Canada will do the warranty work free even if you buy in USA or elesewhere (although you need to send a copy of receipt so they know when were bought), I guess they are all just divisions of the main co in Germany (and not independent distributors) so they're not really losing any money.
I had mine fixed once already and they need to be done again but I'm waiting as long as possible in hopes they come up with new-design stronger replacement parts. As of 2 months ago someone told me the parts are still the same. Takes about 3 weeks to get them repaired. etronics.com has a price of $120 US for the HD-25 but they might not be in stock. Some of those other phones look good too, and there are these new ones by Ultrasone: http://www.ultrasone.com/htdocs/08_f...t/dj_index.php |
