A new fad?
Someone who is more in touch with nuveau fashion needs to explain to me what this push back to the 80s is. If you walk the streets of Vancouver, you see small boutiques selling moon-boots, shiney plastic shoes, silly T-shirts with comic heroes on them. These little outlets are decorated minimally, with a distinctive futuristic tone. There's one near Boomtown if you don't know what I'm talking about.
And there's the music. Le Tigre, which is gettting a huge underground following - I was only aware of their music as a result of my Japanese friends, but then Telus ran their song "Deceptacon" on their Mobility adds. A cross between the B52s and the Pet-Shop Boys, their music is so bad its funny. Are we destined to be plastic-clad pac-man players? Is there a name for this kind of fashion/music? Please enlighten and expand on my poor description. |
