Where To Go Snowboarding This Year?

Well the last 3 years I had a Whistler pass through work but as I no longer work for them I'm a little torn over what to do this year.

One option is getting a 5 day pass for Whistler for $249 if you get the early bird price online (deadline Novemeber 14th). The try and rack up as many days at Cypress and the other locals.

Another idea is getting a one nighter pass at Cypress for $187 and then making weekend trips as much as possible, where ever the snows good.

As for weekend trips I'm thinking Big White this year. It's close and they have a back packers hostle to suit my gheto budget.

Anyone have thoughts or ideas on this? Also I'm always down to put in gas money if some one is driving up the mountain.

HOLLA, let the snow start falling!!!!

Maybe it's total b.s. but I've heard that Hemlock is really weak. Seymour is supposed to have good backcountry? What's the deal with that, do you need probes and peeps or is it still considered inbounds?

IMO seymour is a weak mountain until you take into account the backcountry there, which is pretty sweet. It's considered 'out of bounds' though.

The problem I have with seymour is it's either really on or really off each season with snow, I've gotten season's passes there when it's been a really shitty year there for snow and it wasn't worth it at all.

Thanks for the info. I went up there 10 years ago or something for a ski race and remember it's being the weakest mountian ever but then people always speak of this backcountry... For the price of a day pass there it seems hard to justify getting a season pass though.

With the backcountry do you have to do a lot of hiking or is it partially chair accessable?

the only shitty thing about Big White is when there is a big dump of snow the highway is a bitch to get to Kelowna. The snow there is so dry and light though it makes the trip worth it.

Whistler is the ONLY place to ride. Maybe I'm bias because I live here, but either way, if anyone comes up to Whistler this year and you want someone to ride with, don't hesitate to get a hold of me.

Nothing against Whistler, I love it but the tourists are a little overwhelming. Lucky for all of us this is B.C. and there's no shortage of good mountains to ride.

Many (but not every.) times at whistler, in my personal experience it's

snowboarders VS arrogant asshole german skiiers in spandexesque clothing that think they own the mountain

Any of the interior mountains kick Whistler's ass. I prefer Blackcomb myself for riding.

Sun Peaks, Big White and SIlver Star have better snow, less lineup and killer runs.

i always get my pass at hmelock, but this year they doubled their price. i mean, its still the cheapest, but....not worth it anymore, and especially with no promise for snow this year. i think i'm gonna be getting night passes at grouse, seymour and cypress, and probably try to spend my weekends at good ole hemmy. its nice there, because theres no fake snow, and its not nearly as busy as the other places. and of course, at least one run up to whistler, for traditions sake.

hot damn! i am so stoked for boarding. i keep looking at my gear wistfully.....
