Remember...
I don't care of your ethnic race.
I don't care of your social status. I don't care if you are rich or poor. But I do care if you do not respect those who fought and died for your right to enjoy the life you have at this moment. So remember them. I got my poppy today. |

not last year, but a couple of years ago.
there was an old chinese veteran in the lobby of harbour center. i bought my poppy from him that year. i dropped in my change and he pinned the poppy on me w/ a proud smile. somehow i felt real sentimental inside when he did that. i didn't stop to converse w/ him. i should have, but i can be quite private sometimes. but now i wish i did. |

I two had grandparents who seved WWI and WWII...
Like many of us we have met or have our parents tellus about our grandparents from back in the day. I think its a really important day we have... and always does remind me of how greatful we are to have peace. But I wonder as more and more ventrins pass away, if the younger generations (our kids) will have the same experince as they probly wont be able to meet face to face with them? |

Another manifestation of moral absolutes is the feminist's movement to have muslim women "unveiled". To feminists, muslim women are being repressed by their veil - which, for them, is fundamentally wrong. For some people, war is fundamentally wrong - and under no circumstances should it be resorted to. My question, in essence, is this: is it morally acceptable to kill other human beings under circumstances where your life is not in danger (eg Americans not being threatened by Nazis). Moreover, is it acceptable to kill for ideological reasons? (eg Vietnam and the spread of communism) To say there are moral absolutes is to say that your opinion on serious issues - which are a result of your upbringing, culture and logic - is fundamentally 'Right'. It is our duty as (post) modern human beings, to try to see all issues from multiple angles. While we can never cast off our own biases, by making the effort to see every side, we are well on our way, in my opinion, to understanding and world peace. Nazis, under any circumstances, were wrong. WW2 was justified, although many of the means were not. History however, offers 20/20 hindsight. Last edited by DJ Ponz; Nov 08, 04 at 02:30 PM. |
