well as a survivor of 2 different cases...
Some of the symptoms that i had were swollen lymph notes in my neck, everytime i sat down id end up falling asleep, lack of appetite, and oh yea a pain in the left side of abdomen ever time i breathed in...this is from ur liver and spleen enlarging to the size of footballs. yea so if you got sum of these symptoms ur gunna prolly want to go and get a blood test to either confirm or deny ur suspision. |

when you have mono, you are exhuasted. i never really noticed anything at first, but i started sleeping more and more and more. i went to the doctor cuz a friend of mine had come down with mono, and it turns out i had it too.
that was almost 4 years ago, but it comes back whenever i get worn out or really sick. sinus/throat/chest infections doesn't really tie into mono, though if you have mono chances are ur immune system will be slightly weakened. get lotsa rest, hope u feel better. |

It's almost impossible to contract mono twice as it's a virus, meaning that once you have it it's always in your system. There is one strain that is very, very common, and another that is almost never seen - that's the only way you could have really had it twice. Otherwise, you probably didn't heal properly when you initially got it, so you thought that you were all better but you really weren't. Then, maybe you got a cold and that caused the mono to "come back" because your body never really got used to it in the first place? To answer the original question, some people can have far more severe cases of mono than others. I had it when I was 16, and I didn't know it for three months. I have allergies, and I had strep throat, so we just thought it was a mixture of the two. But when my allergies calmed down and my strep throat had cleared up, I was still sleeping ridiculous amounts and my mom couldn't get me out of bed for school. So, my doctor had me tested and voila, mono. It took me a full year to completely get over it, and even now, four years later, whenever I get a cold, it feels a lot worse than it normally would because I'm still affected by mono. The most classic symptom is extreme fatigue - if you're sleeping waaaaay more than normal, go get a blood test done. When I had mono (before I knew it), I went to a party on a Saturday night, went to sleep on Sunday morning at 10am, and didn't get up (except to hit the washroom) until Tuesday night at dinner time. Also, keep in mind that mono is only contagious for the first 10 days, but symptoms don't start showing up for 10-20 days. So, if you do have mono, feel free to kiss your man and share drinks with your friends - you can't give it to them. |

well im glad the secret is out and you can feel secure. galaxie - thats kinda my story right now. since i got my tonsils removed two years ago ive been able to get over sickness really fast. but right now, not so fast. i fall asleep sitting up, but i do that normally. im a sleepy kid. i've also known other people to have the mono virus and not be that sick and still go to school\function. i'm debating right now whether or not to go and get checked out. i really dont want to waste my time or the doctors time to be told i have the flu and to take fluids and rest. i ate some rice today, downed some gatoraide and its mostly going over ok, the sinuses are bothering me and my lungs are just stupid. maybe i just got a wack with the sick stick. thanks for the info though, you confirmed my origional thoughts on mono. |
