Million Dollar Ideas
I used to work beside a guy named tony at work. Every day he'd ask me what my MDI was. An MDI is a million dollar idea. I dunno. Like, a brilliant stoner idea for the day. Or some two bit ploy to make money (but not actually do).
Do you have any MDI's? |

It's A Trap!!!!
If you don't say your good idea aloud, it's still just a thought. I think that all of the good ideas just haven't been said yet. People are so afraid other people are going to steal them and many MDI’s die with their creator and never happen. For starters, stolen ideas usually aren’t executed properly and the potential isn’t fully seen because it wasn’t thought through enough and developed properly. Anyhow, not every good idea is a million dollar idea; even if it sounds really really good.
I started realizing that at work, through discussion my ideas were being further developed. My ideas became way more realistic. We often synthesized two separate ideas improving both. I’d like this post to work in that way. I’d like it to be a form of fresh eye reconnaissance for you to help your ideas get better. Fresh eye meaning: This is the first time other people are hearing your idea. Two heads are better than one right? Well then the number of heads of FnK have got to be better than 2. I’ve had a lot of ideas too. I usually don’t act upon them, and they’re forgotten. I feel that I didn’t ask around enough for advice on how to develop my idea. And often it’s other people telling me it was a stupid idea. But every idea may not be a good one; even this post. Talking about your idea with other people (even on a public web forum) could be beneficial though. Separate ideas can be synthesized by like minds in unexpected ways. Creative criticism could help smooth the edges of an idea. Even IF someone steals your idea and makes a million dollars off your idea, so what? It got done, didn’t it? Or maybe you could start PM’ing with someone to talk about the idea. GASP! You might meet someone in real life from fnk. This sounds like some sort of trap!!! Hrmm... Possibilities possibilities. I really hope people post in here. I’ll throw my ideas out there. Help me make my ideas a little more tangible and someone can go take it and make it happen. For a change, I just want to be more useful. I just wish people would grow up and speak up before your MDI‘s are lost with you. By George, we could turn this place into a forum yet. (j/k’ing) |

MDI #1: Desktop environments. I wish someone who knew flash could create a program where people could have their own PC pets. For example, if the first desktop environment were to come out, it'd be of fish in an aquarium.
People could get a free aquarium program with 3 fish, a mantle piece and a plant to go into their aquarium. than they can go to the website to buy more fish or plants or even a bigger aquarium. much like a tamagotchi, you gotta maintain the eco-system within the tank. and if everything dies, you just restart again. Each different fish or plant or mantlepiece (like a castle or tower structure) will affect the life cycle of your fish some how, making each aquarium unique to the owner. The point is to have an organic desktop that the user can show interest in and upgrade if they want. With a little bit of art, the user can probably grow attached to his or her fish and aquarium world. After then after that first try, you can take the idea to a new level and have a space themed desktop environment where little aliens and spaceships fly around doing things all day as you either watch them, add to them, or leave them be to do their own thing. use your imagination for themes and the possibilities are endless. you just gotta remember to sell new ideas as attachments to the themes (like... NEW LASERS GUNS for your space desktop aquarium for only 50 CENTS!) This item i think would sell in a large fad if anything. itwould be for people who spend days infront of the computer. And because you could shop online, i dunno. i thought ti was a good idea |

Someone could gather a bunch of designers together and create a design firm. 3 or 4 designers, a webdesigner or two, a good camera, a print contact, and a couple of people in sales would suffice as a team to make a million dollars. The plan: go around to smaller business in all of the different areas of vancovuer and offer improved designs.
Offer yourself as a team and go around offering ideas to improve business' within their smaller communities. For instance, new window vinyl graphics, a new store-front canopy design (or whatever the rainshield is called), new menus for restaurants, new websites, etc. etc. etc. there are so many small business out there concerned only about operating their business that they may not have considered the importance of design. Why don't a bunch of you fnk'ers get together to help out smaller communities for money (using upselling) to help grow your own design firm, as well as their companies too. After all, if you're a good designer, than ever piece of art you make for a small business will undoubtedly help them. And even if it doesn't, it'll make your combined portfolio more vast. There are restaurants, cafes, video stores, clothing stores, clubs, lounges, etc. etc. etc. all out there needing your help. and if you have a team with a strong design name, you can play off one another's hype and portfolio making acquring even more clients WAY more realistic. |

Have you guys seen those smart cards that euro credits cards have? Look like a little metallic chip on the end of a credit card? Well, why don't we come out with those to all of the bigger parties? Undernet tried something like it back in the day, when those plastic cards came out. Well, i figure a card that partiers could keep would be nice. they'd look high class, have the production company's info line number, website address, and etc. on each ticket and you can use tickets to shop online for discounts on tickets to future events.
The idea is incentive and customer branding. If the ticket has use for future parties, they can stay in a partier's wallet. and if they wanna know about the next party, they just use the card. whenever. and if the smart card is being used by multiple production companies, that's even MORE beneficial to the partier. and MAYBE you'll create a small following simply by people using your smart card system. Like t-shirts, the expensive part is the production. and only for the first few. It's not a sure-fire way of working, but you could take the idea internationally if it does. i dunno. |
