This is a great start. I've been to a few stopwar meetings at the maritime labour center and noticed alot of inner politics making stopwar a bureaucratic nightmare as far as planning protests and policy is concerned.
There was a division in the group, and so on October 29th, 2003 Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO) was formed. This group is the true voice of reason as far as a viable anti-war movement is concerned here in Vancouver. Unfortunately, stopwar has been infiltrated by alot of lobbyists which seemingly have the right intentions, but it's an obvious ruse for many reasons and you'd just have to go to the meetings to see for yourself. For one, stopwar supports U.N. occupations. Now imagine you're a native of some third-world country with an occupying force with curfews in place and checkpoints lining up, wheather or not they have a Canadian peace keeping badge, U.S. military badge, or a U.N. NATO badge, if they're setting up roadblocks and holding AK47's, that is a police state and a human rights violation. People don't like Bush because he's a tyrant, he's pro war and happens to come off pretty callously. Thing is though Kerry would have done not much different, I find people who are angry at Bush are angry because he makes it too obvious that the system of politics is corrupt and we as concerned citizens shouldn't let this go on. I will be there in spirit, but if we are going to stop war and slavery, it's gonna take more than getting angry at a puppet. http://www.mawovancouver.org/ |

Okay if theres any American citizens its the time vote for your liberty and against people that are giving you less freedom everyday:
Dear Friends, Something extraordinary is happening. In the last two weeks, thousands of people - deeply concerned about the direction our country has taken - have spontaneously joined the ACLU. They've added their names to those of over 400, 000 other Americans committed to defending the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Today our most fundamental freedoms are in jeopardy. Only a bold, spirited movement of people like you who refuse to surrender your freedoms can protect our civil liberties. On January 20th, George Bush will pledge to uphold the Constitution. Our goal is to recruit 100, 000 new ACLU supporters by that day to proclaim "I REFUSE TO SURRENDER MY FREEDOM." Let's make it clear to those who seek to take away our freedoms that they are on the wrong side of the law...the wrong side of core American values...and the wrong side of history. The more forcefully we speak out and the more voices that join us the more effective we can be -- in the courts, in the press, in Congress - in protecting our freedoms against those who would trample them. Your active participation has been so important to our work, and we hope you will help launch this campaign by doing two things right now: Sign the "I Refuse to Surrender my Freedom" pledge: http://www.aclu.org/refusetosurrender/?orgid=EA111704A&MX=1730&H=1 After you sign, ask three of your friends to take the pledge too. Right-wing extremists are more than ready to expand the Patriot Act, attack the separation of church and state, expand their efforts to institutionalize discrimination against same-sex couples, and limit a woman's right to make her own decisions about her body. Some of the most powerful politicians in America are determined to undermine our fundamental freedoms and the basic constitutional principles that define our democracy. Please stand up, sign the pledge -- and defend the principles and values that represent the best of America. |
