For 250$, you can pick-up a 17" Flat Screen LCD monitor. Check Future Shop or somewhere like that. Or A-Power.com, they are cheap and located in Richmond.

Samsung, NEC, BenQ are good... dont get caught with the crap LCD's like Cicero..

Edit: oh ya.. if you want a flat screen, but not willing to put out the extra $500. Try getting a Flat CRT, 19' SyncMasters from Samsung go for around $200 or so. They have a flat screen, but the large backing on it if you dont know what a CRT monitor is. :p

I've installed/worked with 9 BenQ monitors at one location. Two failed, and another 2 have a really unstable image (??). BenQ used to be Acer, apparently, and the low low price of benq stuff doesn't inspire confidence.
The model numbers, the most important part, I don't have on hand. But when they sell a PLASMA SCREEN for under $1000 you have to ask why their stuff is cheap.

Also, if you're getting a "flat screen CRT" be aware that some I've seen just put a flat piece of glass in front of the round screen. For tubes, I believe only trinitrons are true flat monitors.

Never had a problem with BenQ. Use a couple at school, but I mostly endorse Samsung LCD's and NEC, which i use at home. Never had a problem with either brands.

Dr. Doom can only hope to improve
Doom recomends BenQ. He has an FP731, the thing is built like a fucking tank. Doom loves it very much, its name is Percius.

NEC and Samsung are both excellent. Apple displays are excellent, but pricey.
