Ya know....
You'd figure these club owners/managers might have FIGURED IT FVCKIN' _OUT_ by now of how to get people into (and out of) a club! 1 1/2 hours! Standin' on the stinkin' sidewalk! Freezing! Even though we got there around 10, we had to give up. Which SUCKED!, because I really wanted to see some of those acts! Why? WHY would they only have _2_ chicks doing coat check _AND_ cover/donation collection?! Retarded! I hope everyone who made it in enjoyed the show! It had tonz of promise... Frosty (Can only imagine the Gong Show, attempting to leave Dick's, trying to get coats...) |

sorry you guys could not get in, but your facts are wrong
there was security at the entrance, then a second checkpoint with two girls taking $10 donations and coats if you've ever been a cashier, you'd know right there that it doesnt get that much more efficient for cash collectors than that - a nice even price with little need for change - and when change is needed, minimal work is required to put that in perspective, richards uses the same amount of workers...2...on their busiest nights of the week - friday and saturday nights (from what i've seen anyway) the third checkpoint was optional and was staffed for the first few hours by red cross reps - you would have went there if you wished to donate more than the original $10 and/or if you wanted a reciept thats 3 to 4 girls taking money - NOT 2 as you heard (heard from who btw?) from there you had to pass the next security checkpoint, then you entered the room i attended past benefits, observed, and identified ways to minimize delays at the door for our event - most notably by having 4 people dealing with the above tasks (i saw how much time receipt requests can take) bottom line is...too many people showed up, very quickly, and before you and supply as it relates to capacity was greater than demand myself and the richards manager spent time monitoring the entry procedure as the lineup grew and grew - we actually had extra bodies ready to help. you're not thinking this all the way through and you're speculating based on misinformation the club wants you in there as soon as possible drinking the promoter wants you in as soon as possible because they want you to get your monies worth and see all the acts but the richards foyer can only hold so many people at once i saw a steady flow of people going from security to the doorgirl/coatcheck then optionally to the red cross rep, then through the second security checkpoint from what i saw, no one was slacking, no one stopped for a coffee break while 200 people waited in line - they simply had to clear the foyer each time before letting in the next load of people it's that simple i feel bad that people froze their asses off, but... the two headliners have fairly different fanbases ivana has sold out the commodore in the past on a $17.50 ticket (keep in mind the commodore is twice the size of richards) kela has twice filled richard's on a $15 ticket this event was only $10 and had more acts than those shows i mentioned even if there was no charitable cause, this event would most likely have sold out based on the above numbers the club hit legal capacity at roughly 11 pm the moral of the story is, dont get mad when 300 people beat you to the club and line up before you about 70 people with foresight lined up before doors opened just please try to show up earlier next time if you'd still like to help somehow: Canadian Red Cross 1-800-418-1111 www.redcross.ca UNICEF Canada 1-800-567-4483 Oxfam Canada 1-800-466-9326 Asian Earthquake/Floods Relief, Oxfam Canada World Vision Canada 1-800-268-5528 CARE Canada 1-800-267-5232 Médecins Sans Frontières 1-800 982-7903 Foster Parents Plan 1-800-387-1418 Indonesian Embassy in Ottawa Tsunami relief fund 613-724-1100 ICNA Relief 1-866-637-4357 Canadian Tamil Congress 416-751-8777 Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace 1-888-664-3387 Mennonite Central Committee 1-888-622-6337 Salvation Army Donation line: 1-800-725-2769 Last edited by spectrum; Jan 11, 05 at 02:32 PM. |

Well written Spectrum.
Well Azim and I had a blast last night at the show. As Spectrum mentioned, the place was PACKED and the donation box was rammed full of bills which was great to see. -- Especially on a Monday night! I got there fairly late, but from what I saw, the acts were awesome and it's wicked they came out for this awesome cause. Killa Kela was nutso! I very much enjoyed him. Mass props to Spectrum for throwing this together! Cheers. |

it was a great show. killa kela was just.. gah. i'm sure tons of money was raised, and everyone in there was having a great time.
re: the line... yeah, it was busy, but that had to be anticipated giving the quality of the acts and the sheer hype. i was having drinks with a friend in the building next to the club and although there were what looked to be hundreds of people outside at a couple of points, it did move really quickly. |

Yeah Matt and I got down there around 1030pm (bc he was working late) and the lineup was sooooo long. We figured we'd never get in. So we turned around and went home. I was hella disappointed, but I'm SO glad that the turn out was SO awesome and that you guys raised SO much $$!! YEAH!! :)

wow, thats a nice number. good work. too bad i didn't get in, but i've donated elsewhere anyway. i waited about 45 minutes before we found out they'd only let another 80 or so people in before hitting capacity. a quick count of the people in front of us convinced uss that we were wasting our time, heh.
