Gary Bettman: The worst sports manager/owner EVER?
What do you think and state your reasoning as to why you think this or why you think that.
Also feedback on the league's lack of offense and playing styles. Rules like removing the red line *CENTER ICE LINE*. The goalie being able to play the puck behind the net, AHL rules that if succesful will be implemented into the NHL when the season starts up again. Also expansion. Feed back on expansion to a 30 team league instead of 24 or 26. Lastly on salaries ballooning to approx $1.8 million per average player. |

I think expansion should have stayed at 24 or 26 teams at best. Do we really need columbus, atlanta, florida and like carolina.
Imagine a team like chicago or phoenix having like a Rick Nash on their team. Or Ilya Kovalchuk on Buffalo or Edmonto. Scoring would be more competitive because talent can be spread around better. |

I think owners should get together and vote bettman away. Yes the NHLPA and the players are bad too, but its not all their fault that salaries are up to where they are now.
The 94 lockout did nothing but make the season a hallf season, and expansion should have never gone to 30 teams. ITS NOT THE NBA GARY!! |

I think bettman is a joke, if he was any other line of work he would have been canned along time ago for the way he's done things.
Rules that will make hockey a much better sport not only to watch but play are: NO redline, this rule in the NHL will probly add at least 2 goals a game and stop boring teams from sitting back playing the trap all game. Touch up off sides: this is a must i cant stand the offside rule in place right now so many stops in play that dont need to be there it totally kills the flow of the game. NO touch icings: this one is a saftey thing but a good rule non the less I would also like to see some kinda of shoot out rule if the teams are still tied at the end of the OT period, make the shoot out for the extra point, that will bring in fans big time and add a whole new level of excitement to the game. this rule would not be in affect during playoff games though. The whole expansion thing is a catch 22, on one side its retarded cause the league is filling up with players that shouldnt be there and because of it the level of play goes down, but on the other hand its good that they are trying to market the NHL in as many places as possible. But i personally would have stoped at 26 or even 28. The salary things pisses me off, having played most of the big sports in north america i can tell you right now that hockey players are the most skilled athelets on the planet period and there pay is a joke compared to other sports.so i cant even get in it. |

The pace was set from the beginning...since Bettman became commissioner, player wages have risen 400%, the money coming from revenue. He believes the only way to maintain 'cost certainty' is to initiate a salary cap...and this is one of the main issues. Regardless...I see no rabbits being pulled from the ass for the news conference on Wednesay; Bettman will be calling off the season.
The PA stood up and said they'd take a 24% cut...but apparently that was 'only a start'. And the league asks why the 'four triggers' were not negotiated in a counter-proposal by the NHLPA...quite simply, no matter how it's stated...it's a salary cap and the Players will not accept it. Even exceeding one trigger would revert the negotiated CBA to the NHL's proposal for a cap. The funny thing is, the first trigger would have been exceeded from the signing of the CBA (maximum team payroll trigger). As I work in a union shop as a steward, I understand the issues rather well. But at the same time, both sides are greedy. Regardless of the outcome...the game will never be the same after this...but neither will it be for Bettman. If anything he will always be known as 'that guy who stole the season from the fans'. Certainly what he would call a 'legacy'. |

Very well put after watching this so called lockout go back and forth it does see that both sides seem greedy.
Bettmen for wanting the easy way out with a salary cap and no linked revenue sharing. Whereas the players won't accept anything to do with any version of a cap, and though polls state fans lean more towards owners and blaming th eplayers. I think there is alot of blame to be put on the owners too. I did like Melynk's offer though of letting the players of the NHLPA vote on the last proposal by the NHL instead of just saying their not interested. |

Ok so here's what I think. It's Febuary 16, Bettman's announcing if it's a go or not today at 10am et. I think Bob slid a deal acceptable to Bettman at the final hour. None of those guys slept tonight, that's for sure! If he didn't then he's a RETARD! Bettman succeeds, crushing the union, and changing hockey as we know it is forever...well kinda
Do you think that Bob, Trevor and the rest of the union, are this dumb...seriously! Here's your choices 1) Keep your highly paid NHL carreer and get paid 2) Lose your career in the NHL, don't get paid NO BRAINER HERE!!! Last edited by TheCooker; Feb 16, 05 at 08:50 AM. |

i think thats what their called now haha. Ya: PEDRO IS THE MAN!! but i'm still a fan of the mariners though last year was a big off year compared to when they just romped through the league with a record of 116-46. Man how do you go from that record to 63-99? ` |
