There was a program on PBS last night about something related to this. It was about how the vegetation covering Northern Alaska (& presumably all northern lands) is changing because it is getting warmer and dryer. This causes the trees to die from lack of water and increased bugs, and the forest is changing into grasslands. Also the permafrost or muskeg (underground ice) is melting and causing more disruption.
Further north, the land is changing from tundra (northern grassland) to shrubby lands, which makes the climate even warmer, and causing more disruption to animals etc. |
