Inquiry VS Enquiry

Both mean the same thing, but I am stupid atm and can't figure out if the accepted Canadian use is with an I or an E.

Let me know!

I prefer the use of the 'I' personally.

K, I'm not asking for personal preference, I'm talking about the most widely acceptable use in Canada. Eg- USA = Inquiry, UK= Enquiry

I think it makes more sence too. As in-quire also means to in-vestigate. Being apart of the common welth I think it also makes sence to stick with the british spelling as well. You know how much we try to be diffrent then the americans :P

Even the websters american dictionary has both words in it. However "inquire" actualy gives a meaning. Whare as "enquire" is refferd also to inquire.

may i wager a guess?

most commonly used would be the american spelling, inquiry, because, with the noteable exceptions of colour, neighbour, et al, we tend to follow the american way of things.

the most 'proper' would presumably be the british spelling, enquiry.

according to this site http://www3.telus.net/linguisticsiss...anAmerican.htm both are acceptable, but inquiry is more common.

affect is a verb, the process of doing it. "to affect something"
effect is the noun, the result. "the effect of something"
