Oh my... check this out:
Brand new to the Land Rover lineup for 2006 is the Range Rover Sport, the first ever Land Rover performance-based vehicle. It will make its Canadian Debut in Toronto at the Canadian International Auto Show.
The Range Rover Sport comes with two engine types - normally aspirated and supercharged. The regular engine is nothing to scoff at, being a 4.4-liter V8 capable of producing 300-horsepower. The real performance comes from the supercharged version. Though smaller at 4.2-litres and also a V8, it produces 390-horsepower and has a top speed of 140 mph.
"Performance blended with a premium package, but grounded in Land Rover heritage. There is now a Range Rover to satisfy the widest range of consumers," said Matthew Taylor, managing director, Land Rover.
The Land Rover Sport is optimized for fast, long-distance driving according to Land Rover. It will be debuting a new Dynamic Response suspension system that senses cornering forces, working to optimize body control and handling. It also features a performance-tuned chassis.
Land Rover takes pride in its vehicles' offroad abilities, and the Range Rover Sport is no exception. It includes terrain response and low-range gearing. To keep things safe on any surface, it also includes electronic traction control, brake assist, dynamic stability control.
In addition to the dynamic response suspension, another Land Rover first will be the addition of adaptive cruise control. Other technology that can be found in the Range Rover Sport includes an onroad/offroad navigation system, bi-xenon adaptive front lighting and a rear-seat DVD system with two screens - one on each of the two front seat headrests.
Both models will be available in North America in June. Pricing and specifications will be announced closer to launch.
