I prefer mplayer for win32, but that's just 'cause I've been using it in Linux for years.
plays anything you throw at it, no bullshit graphical interface or installers. hotkeys, fullscreen and OSD stuff works perfectly every time. http://www.mplayerhq.hu |

I like mplayer for video and if I'm checking out a new track in my /filez/Upload directory, or ~ebb/nicotine (soulseek downloads). I use rhythmbox for audio on the most part (iTunes clone.... Screenshot here).
I like the iTunes-style interface. It's nice to just click on the "shuffle" button, grab a genre, and just hit the play. Also, on the left side I like having the playlists with people's names on it. It's easy to tell them: "You hear a song you like on my comp, drag it over to your list." Then, if they're over and want to listen to my tunes that they like, can just throw on their playlist. Also helpful is if I'm like, "I'm in a Jerry mood" so I'll throw on Jerry's playlist at Random. All it really needs is a couple more levels of stability, A decent "add track" option (New gnome browser doesn't seem to want to accept anything that's not a directory... I work around this by going to the file in my filebrowser, right clicking on it and going to "Open with Audio Player" and it throws the track into the library...), and smart playlisting |
