Your Neighbour's wireless connection...
I'm new to this. Never used the internet on my laptop before until now...I have two wireless networks available showing up... The one entitled "linksys" is the one that we have at home and I know it's ours, but netgear just appeared out of nowhere.. so *i think* someone in my neighbourhood is sharing their connection and doesn't even know it. and I'm currently surfing the net on their signal.
Is it like a bad thing to be using someone else's wireless connection or something? :P uhhh.. |

yeah, i have 2 or 3 that are available to connect to from my house. Since I don't have wireless here, it's reeeeeallly nice to be able to be in different rooms and surf the 'net sometimes. I'm not feeling too guilty about it - i don't look at anything too incriminating, and the savvy ones will kick me off their networks soon enough. :)

again, I rarely use this laptop for surfing so I don't understand how this stuff works. |

question is.. how do u break into ppls wireless connections? like pwords?
totally new on this laptop thing too, tryin to figure out how to "borrow" connection..when im out and about. i dont see much harm in someone using ure connections... i duno i guess it can possibly slow ure own connection down, but if its only by a tad..sharing is nice. |

sometimes you'll see networks with names like "netgear" or "linksys", which usually means they don't know how to change their access point settings, or haven't bothered. if thats the case, then they probably haven't changed the default passwords either. check out a list like this to match default usernames and passwords to manufacturers: http://remote-exploit.org/content/wlanvuln.html |

When I'm at home, I use this wifi network named after my street. I'm assuming it's an open network because I've used it since I got my laptop.
When I'm at school, I use the schools wifi network. I've never had to connect my laptop to a ADSL/Cable. Although, when I send/receive files on MSN, it's terribly slow. I think it's the program, or I need to get my own wireless router :p. Other than that, everything's fast. Like it says on here, you're not the one who should worry if you're using someone else's connection. They should :p |
