Makes more sense, wouldn't you say, that summer PEAKS on the longest day instead of STARTING on it? Silliness, Dave "actually pays attention to rules and calendars" Leckie |

Yeah, the 21st of June should be the peak day of summer, since the sun peaks out the longest. |

Celtic Calendar says there are 8 major holidays in the year, called "Sabbats".
4 of the sabbats we know: 2 equinoxes (Fall and Spring, when the day is as long as the night), 2 soulstices (the longest and shortest day of the year). The other 4 are the "cross-quarterly sabbats" and appear at the change of the season in the celtic calendar: February 2, Imbolc, First day of spring, we start to see small furry critters emerge from the ground (Hence the Groundhog Day superstition). May 1, Beltane, First day of summer. Festivals are common around here.... Maypoles and flowers and whatnot. May the partying begin. August 2, Lammas, First harvest, therefore beginning of autumn. October 31, Samhaim, End of harvest, beginning of holing up for winter (honestly, what is there to farm except turnips in November?), also where that nasty Hallowe'en superstition came from as well. |
