Extended Bar Hours In Vancouver
Local News Extended bar hours in Vancouver
document.write(dateConvert("2005-03-18 19:12:14"));March 18, 2005 - 4:12 pm By: Shane Bigham Vancouver bars may soon be allowed to stay open to three a.m. seven nights a week. The city is working with the province to change the Vancouver Charter; the city wants more enforcement power to deal with problem bars. Karen Hoese with the city says the late night hours were approved in principal in November and they are now waiting for the provincial government to act. These late night hours may spread beyond the entertainment district. There's a public open house next Wednesday about including Davie Village and the Odyssey nightclub on Thurlow. Check the City of Vancouver website for details. |

how would it really create more problems? it's just an hour difference.
if it was a question of letting them stay open all night, then yes, it would create more problems for the police, but an extra sixty minutes isn't really going to do that much i don't think. night busses run until around 4am anyway, so there wouldn't be any more drunken drivers than there would if the bars closed at 2am. |

^my mom has been letting me drink since i was 15 years old. i think it was a good decision because it taught me to drink responsibly...i didn't go out and get really really wasted and puke all over the place at high school parties because drinking wasn't a big deal for me since i could do it at the dinner table if i wanted too.

notice how in europe there is no age requirements for anything..
is there any problems out there..? i think not. back east, well in Montreal.. there is at least 1 club open at any given time during the day/night.. i think its a good idea.. im underage.. my parents will let me drink.. but they jus inform me not to drink too much.. they trust my judgement. |

My parents never encouraged me to drink, but they didn't make a big deal about it if I did. I agree with Sidekick. I'm not sure if this works for everyone though.
I've heard from a lot of people that Vancouver has the worst nightlife of all the big cities in Canada. I'm not big on travel, but I agree. Vancouver needs to liven up! I think the bar hour extension's a step in the right direction. Won't it be better to have people stay inside longer than causing fights outside? Plus maybe by the time they're out of the clubs, they'll probably be too tired. |

of course it'll create more problems in that it'll require a large police presence later than it does now. however, there won't suddenly be mass violence just because the bar's open later. one really needs to look at the cost though, because i'm not sure if vancouver could support a nightlife to rival that back east or in europe, or enough of one to make timing changes cost effective.

Alcohol is always going to make it easier for stupid people to do stupid things, whether or not they're allowed to have it. But yeah, the European way is a hell of a lot more fun. |

^^ fucking right!.. ** meant for sinnerman**
i mean.. fuck, obviously there is gonna be problems its not gonna be perfect... but seriously.. if we had the nightlife from back east.. over here.. this would be the most perfect place to live.. the climate is awesome.. and then the nightlife... BC is not open for change at all... at least 10 yrs behind on things.. its sad.. it's not fun at all... a CITY as big as Vancouver should be fun.. im not looking forward to turning 19 at all.. becuz it wont be that great of a deal... turning 18 on the other hand.. hell ya.. cuz at least i'll be legal in Montreal and thats where the best club life is IMO.
