If you shoot yourself, you can't really have a pretty corpse or an open casket funeral. But I hear if you starve yourself for perhaps two weeks, it can be pretty peaceful (tremors, organ failure nothwithstand).

She's been diagonsed as PVS, which is why many people's arguments centre around whether it's possible to bring someone out of that state, or in your case if she truly is PVS.

As for the definition, many seem to include the inability to sense pain or a total lack of awareness of self:
