Can someone teach me how to get the windows service pack 1

I have a pirated version of XP Pro.
The Service pack has a feature that will not allow you to update pirated versions.
What I need to know is if anyone knows how to change the registry so I have a "legit" key.

Yes I know this is illegal. if you can help plz PM me.

Been there done that, leanred the best bet is just to format/upgrade to a WinXP CD w/ sp2 already on board. I can sort ya out with the image if you can figure it out yourself?

I downloaded a prog that just completely changed my key and now sp1 seems to be downloading fine.
I may need that image if this doesn't work out though.
I wanted to install a program and it said I needed to have this update so.. yeah... hopefully this goes well. SP1 sure is taking it's precious time to install.

Snyxy said it dead on. It typically is NEVER a good idea to upgrade an OS service pack on top off software already installed. Sometimes (not all the time), you run into some mass application-related problems when you use the Windows Update feature.

I just did a complete format of my computer and installed Windows XP SP2 and it worked like a charm.

If you don;t have a Windows Install cd that has SP2 built in then you can always Slipstream sp2 into your existing install

here is a website that explains it more
http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm

I just searched on google....

from personal experience i can say i have never had any problems installing any of the updates provided by windowsupdate.microsoft.com. im currently (and have always been) running a corporate version of Windows XP Professional that comes w/SP1 pre-installed, and updated to SP2 using windowsupdate. i have the auto-update option turned on, so pretty much as soon as an update comes out it gets installed, with the only prompt gaven to me being weather I want to reboot or not.

as for problems with software thats installed pre-update, once again, no problems. and i have a ton of apps installed ranging from graphic design software to software development applications... and games too...

the one piece of advice i give anyone whos trying to stabilize their box is quite simple...

firewall + virusscanner applications must be installed PRIOR to pluging a live internet connection into your pc. yes hardware firewall (routers) solve the problem 99.99% of the time, but nowadays u can never be too safe.

all this being said...

FreeBSD / OBSD / Linux wont give you any of these headaches... Give a real OS a try... ;)

peace
