weird suicide attempt

my mom called me last night and said her friend tried to commit suicide a few days ago by dragging the bbq into the bathroom, plugging up the crack under the door, and turning the propane on.

weird, no?

A little bit.

But when you're trying to kill yourself I'd say your thinking may be a little clouded.

yeah, but you'd think she'd choose one of the easier more conventional ways.

like, even pulling the propane tank itself into the room...why the whole bbq? unless you were cooking yourself a last meal or something.

I guess she wanted to die a way that no one has died before. She lost her will to live, but not her desire for individuality?

Or maybe there was some special, symbolic meaning behind it.

So what was the outcome? failed attempt? they probably passed out from exhaustion after reaching the top of the stairs.

apparently her husband came home and found her passed out in the bathroom. i'm not sure how long it takes to die from gas poisoning. i imagine it would be really nice though...just get kind of sleepy and off you go.

i dunno about symbolic meaning. maybe she always hated bbq-ing?

depending on how long she was out for there is probably going to be some pretty serious brain damage.

that's what they're worried about now. i think it's still too early to tell or something, but i know she's in the psychoward at the hospital for a bit.

this isn't the first time she's been there either, she was there for six weeks before because she suffers from depression. and her son is bipolar. and her husband is a conspiracy theorist who goes on the radio and talks about how 9/11 was orchestrated by the U.S. government.

That's very sad that she tried to do that.

( but I suppose also humourous in fabulously twisted way )

What's wrong with the traditional car method? Did she have a beer in there with her too?

Is she in therapy now? I hope so. Poor thing.

Oh, and if I could actually CHOOSE my last meal..it'de have to be BBQ

i asked my mom why she didn't just do the car in the garage trick and she said because their garage is so full of boxes they can't fit their car in there.

but you can still run a garden hose from the exhaust pipe and into the car. i guess that might look a little strange to the neighbours.

That really doesn't sound like the healthiest environment for someone suffering from clinical depression to be in. My cousin suffers from bipolar, she's never attempted to take her own life; but every now and then she decides to go off her meds. The last time she ended up doing that she ended up in portugal with no luggage knocking on some family members doors.

Mental illness is a serious disease, that to some degrees be treated. But the main thing is having a stable individual to monitor the people who suffer from it. A lot of the time these people suffer from caretaker burnout, which I myself have suffered from in the past.

not really, ever ehard of those suicide clubs in japan, alot of them chose to go essentially the same way only they would use a smaller camp stove in a car with the windows sealed.

i figure it would be a fairly pleasant way to go

^caretaker burnout...i know what that feels like too.

my aunt is also bipolar and she stopped taking her meds. she ended up in the hospital for a month writing a book that angels told her to write. she was so delusional she even began to describe how this book was going to make her famous and that she was going to be on oprah.

my sister also went through a really harsh depression/suicidal/crystal meth/bitch period. so tiring to handle, sometimes i felt like i was the one that needed medication.

edit: for cubed.

yeah, i have heard of those suicide clubs before. apparently it's a huge problem there, and they have to constantly moniter and close down websites where these people meet and decide to kill themselves.

it might just be me, but i find suicide really really interesting. i mean, considering it's probably one of the most extreme choices you can ever make.

It's not a fun place to be.

When you care for the person that much you just pick yourself up and do it.

yeah cuz in japanese and alot of asian cultures people tend not to talk about their mental health issuses or even say that they are depressed, they simply kill themselves. This is one of the reasons why cross cultural studies on the differences in instances of mental illness between western countries and eastern ones are typically flawed because of the existance of cultural differences that affect the way mentall illness is expressed/repressed.

having experienced mental illness as well as planning my own death I find studying mental illness both extremely interesting as well as extremely frightening.
