Yup. Yup.
I used to be an associate member at the branch up around Fraser and 43'rd. It's just like the "Legion". A club/hall where the vets would be welcome to drink (cheaply), play darts, pool, or shuffleboard, listen to music, and socialize. I always loved the meat draws! I always bought tix, without expecting to win. I could never accept it, anyway, not being able to eat it. The reason they sent you a card is because they want to stay open. They need new members (and you no longer have to have served, or be related to someone who did). Their original clientelle, (WWI & II, Korea, etc.) are, literally dying off. They want new blood to make the branches viable enough to not have to shut down. I always used to go to the Billy Bishop Branch of the Legion in Kits. Looked like a cross between a pub, and your childhood friend's English-background parent's basement. The Vancouver Morrissmen would always show up, and start pulling out instruments and start playing and singing tonz of old Celtic/British/etc drinking songs! 'Twas _awesome_!!! Frosty (should go back, sometime) |
