I saw a documentry on one of these "private citys" down in florida. I was quite disturbed as really it was just a way for the rich to escape reality. Some of them even have strict religouse and racial laws!
I grew up in a co-op houseing complex wich was really nice having everyone work togther and developing a small comunity in a larger one. I felt alot more safe wear I lived wich I can see must be the goal of the ppl wanting to move into these places. However the feeling im getting from these "private" citys is high taxes and a place only the rich can affored. I wouldnt want to live in a place like that... probly full of rich snoby ppl looking for a quick selfish way away from reality. I can see these "private citys" just making a bigger gap between the rich and the poor. |

Landlocked ?
I myself will never buy land or a house.
Who wants to live with people when you can be miles out at sea and just float down to Brazil, Mexico wherever. One day everybody will live on a boat ! After the ice age hits. |

I think it can be a good thing and a bad thing to have a private city....
I would see it this way if there was a opportunity of this kind A city where you have equality of all races, Sex, Sexualities ..etc... and laws for that...and same for Social rights... No Geneticaly modified food....(I cant even believe it exist) And other fucked up things like having cameras every corner streets...Chipps in human bodies..etc A certain control over Criminality but not a prison for the community either And most important of all, FREEDOM of speech Of course a mix of Young and old people but maybe I would think of making certain places a little fare away from traffic, schools, Clubs....for older people and closer to shops, Cafes, Bars, Parks, Hospitals, and other health care structures...but not putting old people in centers And young closer to Attractions, Clubs, Malls...etc Where theres also work, Schools and much more I would built a city where people could have a chance in our ruff world, from poor to rich with simple things like agriculture, caretaker to Chairman, shareholder(the mix of rich and poor thats how it makes it equal society) I dont think I believe in Disney land either do I believe it would be a dumpster... Politics are so corrupted in certain countries that, yes, I would like to have of something that is not out of control....And thats exacly why I think smaller communities would probably be easyer manage then big ones(Take exemple of the USA, no one can stop them) Probably it is a good thing to have it private maybe not...It all depend of how we manage everything It doesnt need to be a city where you see only old people...Im sure it can give a chance for younger people also to run there own lifes...And believe me that is something that I find really hard in Europe, and witch makes you depend on your parents longer(I dont like that at all) And I think we also need older experienced people to instruct young ones...it has always been that way I wouldn't support that restaurants like Mcdonalds or shops like Walmart etc.... It would brake the community jobs and the community budget...Even when you think of it Walmart and Mcdonalds we dont have that much savings when we buy there...and Walmart exports everything from other countries so it would brake the local economy...Its all junky anyway...Its better to have specifique shops that is specialised for computers or cloth for exemple...but all close to one and other...(Would probably make laws so that we have to all put shops in certain places) and only little food stores, restaurants,Bars..etc would be alowed to be pretty much everywhere all around the city As for Transportations I think I would think of a low local Tax witch would make our local transportations free...it would probably help us so that private transportation dont come and inplante here from elsewhere.. And would probably make the transports 24/7 in and near downtown or something....Plus its better for the Environment Anyway I guess every one has they re own ideas..I think it would be possible to live in a society with alot more equalities... I would hate something artificial or completly out of the real world like we see in the movies for exemple...etcetcetcetc ( ho and sorry if the spelling is bad :) ) |

^ very good ideas Maztraz
I would make my city pretty much car free, like Venice, Italy where people actually walk around the streets. I'd get contracters to build the houses like they do in Amsterdam and Copenhagen, tall, narrow, and bright colors. Especially downtown, to give it a classic and cozy look. I’d also set things up where the city was surrounded by rural areas where they grew non-GMO organic food, kind of like a castle surrounded by the farmlands needed to support it. The center would be where the farmers markets would be, and I wouldn’t allow any giant supermarkets or shit like that, so it would definitely encourage the local economy and we would be self-sustaining. We’d also have our own money, like they have in Ithaca, New York. :) "Ithaca Hours" -- in denominations of One Hour, Quarter Hour, and Eighth Hour -- are privately printed money accepted by more than 300 businesses in that New York town. |

These planned communities are GREAT. Tim and I have been looking at buying a house in a planned community in either Tampa or Durham next year - wherever he decides to go to med school. Everything is right there at your fingertips - pool, gym, golf course, parks, schools, grocery store, etc., and they have very tight security which will definitely make me sleep easier at night.
As for Rhia's comment about planned communities only being for the super rich, that's not so! Brand new homes at the ones we have been looking at range from 198,000-330,000 depending on square footage, and then you pay a monthly fee for all the amenities - kind of like the co-op idea that she mentioned. |
