I switched to Telus a while back, and it was well worth it. I have had a lot fewer problems with the connection, and you get a better speed for the money.
But that's here on the Island, things might possibly be a little different on the mainland. |

I guess it would really depend on your area. If you're using newsgroups alot, go Telus. Shaw has the Extreme-I package which will be hell of alot faster than Telus' regular ADSL line. Im currently on Telus and haven't had any uptime or service issues in a long time. Either provider will meet your needs :)

what are the reasons for why your sister wants to switch isps? i know that shaw was quite shitty last week for me, i was disconnected from the net for 4 days, i called in and they brought in a technician to fix the line or do whatever he had to do to fix it. (damn you coquitlam and your shitty internet)
i dont download files like crazy anymore, so i cant really tell you which one allows you to download more a month, or which one goes at a faster speed, but ill say this: if youre just experienced temporary problems with your isp atm, try calling into tech support and get as much help as you can with your connection before you go and switch. dont bother calling into either isp asking for tech support if you go through a hub or router, i mean.. youre allowed to be, but as soon as either of those come into play, they assume its a network problem and so they'll just tell you that they cant help you with that.understandable i suppose |

I frequently get up to 4 mbps download speed, 500 kbps upload, from Shaw but the speed does drop a little in primetime. Someone told me Telus is more constant at 1.5 mbps all the time (depending where you live).
Apparently you can get a "Lite" Telus account for $20/month first year but it's $30 at Shaw. Full account is about $40 from both after any intro period. |

If you download a lot of movies or music, go with Telus. They don't monitor bandwidth. Shaw calls and complains a lot. I'm switching to Shaw soon anyway, but only because I don't need my land line. Also, Telus makes you register the MAC address on each computer you use, so you can only connect two computers to the internet unless you have your own router.

Shaw - extremely fast, but you are limited to a certain amount of bandwidth, if you go over they call and bitch, and if you go over their limits a few times, they will suspend your account.
Telus - a little bit slower, havent had any downtimes in 2 years with them, you are also limited to a certain amount of bandwidth, but they never call/bug you about it at all. use Telus because I believe if you sign up with them right now they are offering a years subscription for $24.95/month. check it out James. |

i've been with telus for 3 years.. my interenet is 20$/month.. my land line is 24$/month... just cause i've been a valuable customer to them, i get it for so cheap! dont think it will be going up either.. |

Telus = 10GB Download cap
not that they REALLY enforce it, but wtf is that. I've been a strong telus supporter since day one, but having toyed around on a few shaw connections recently, I think it has 4,000,000% to do with where you live and then shaw if it's fast and telus if shaw sucks. |

Shaw has a $10 extra option that gets you 50 GB/month - they don't say what the limit is for the regular high-speed account.
http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsSer...hSpeedXtremeI/ My friend just signed up for the Telus "Lite" DSL account, will be interesting to see how fast this is - $20/month. |
