URGENT! protest&petition Liberal health/edu
This was passed on to me today............. i URGE everyone to come out to the pacific colloseum on monday for the protest.
And those of you in Post Secondary Education............... holly shit are you going to be PISSED OFF when you find out what the Liberals are implementing starting with the Summer semester. The protest will be massive~ there is NO excuse not to stand up and demand your basic rights and freedoms. school is cancelled on monday..... so get your ass down to the colloseum. PERIOD! you have no right to bitch unless you put everything you've got into fighting. here's the message i recieved: The Liberals have done it again. They have recalled the legislature and introduced legislation that will destroy the provision of public services in three sectors of the economy. Bringing the $6 training wage right into the hospitals, schools and homes of many British Columbians. The response to this legislation must be massive and quick. These bills will be passed by tomorrow evening. There is a petition that will strike fear in the hearts of these Liberals, recall. Come November 17, 2002 we will be able to start a real recall. In the meantime let them know that you will be doing it then by signing the online recall petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/2005/ Provincewide rallies are planned for Monday. The Pacific Colliseum is booked in Vancouver and the rally will start at 10 am. In Victoria, there will be a rally at Centennial square at noon. For other locations check out http://www.bctf.ca/itsabouttime/ral...stSchedule.html Please make your voices heard. Huzzah.
....larger class sizes, less programs/sections/specialized courses avaliable, making it harder for anyone to get into any of these institutions...if you ARE one of the lucky ones, you're going to be paying almost double what we do now. I appreciate that Mr. Campbell is trying to run his government like a "business", but I'm not too entirely certain if he understands that everything that is affected by these massive cuts and horrid legislation is not just numbers, that behind ALL of the numbers, there's some pretty pissed off people. If you're in highschool and planning on attending any kind of post secondary institution in this province, I urge you to go (especially seeing as how you don't have class on Monday) .. I wouldn't be suprized if Mr. Campbell finds his people turning against him, very very soon. M. |

i agree, myra...... it's fucking repulsive.
and what's more repuilsive is how the corporate media (ie: global network incl: Province, Sun, Global News, Canada.com, etc) is skewing things. i have a button on my jacket that says "proud to be a teacher". on the bus, i get more people dumping on me than supporting. the things they say are absurd. people really believe this bullshit from the Corporate Liberal government......... like the "we inherited a $3 billion deficit from the NDP"................... IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO INHERIT A DEFICIT!!!! fuck, anyone with any brains knows that. you start a fiscal year with a clean slate, any accumulated deficit is added to the Provicial Debt... any surplus can be used to pay off accumulated Debt. Debt and Deficit are different. infact, under the NDP, there was a $1.5 billion SURPLUS which could have been used to pay off the Prov Debt, could have been invested in health, education, services, olympics (thankfully it wasnt i hate olympics), welfare, job creation, low income housing, environmental protection, etc. but no.......... it went to pay off monster corporations and the uber-wealthy. and it backfired (as economists predicted). but people still think it "has to be done". no it fucking doesn't. silverfish ~L7~ new rave photos added daily at: http://members.fotki.com/silverfish |

you can't recall an entire government. you can recall an mp. this blathering is so uninformed... http://www.elections.bc.ca/rcl/rclpam.html you think with all the money you guys are hoping on saving for your post secondary you could take up a collection to buy a clue. r. |

People do what they can my friend. You really have no need to be insulting to people who are trying to do something. I don't know anything you've done because I don't know of you but I do klnow that Silverfish as been really strong and persistant in trying to change many things for the better, and actually succeeding. I've also had major discussions with him, and think he's one of the very few individuals with a clue. But if you do see a mistake in something someone says please have some tact and respect and let them know without being insulting just because you can. Just a suggestion of course my comrade. |

using misleading statements and anecdotes to incite fury in students is silly. the people showing up at the rally don't have an informed opinion, they have a catalouge of heresay and anecdotes. a little knowledge is a very dangerous thing. r. |

Regarding petitions, I believe that they do more damage to a cause than any good.
People will often think that if they sign their name to something that they have done their part, and will therefore not stand up in media where they might actually have some influence. If you give people an easy way to alieviate their conscious, they'll most likely use it and forget about everything else. ][nkster |

actually thats the very smallest part of it. People do many other things, signing a petition just does a little bit, but it's alot more then that. Personally I don't sign too many petitions because I find I get more done doing other things. |
